NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Excellent Sci-fi

I enjoyed the action and the storyline. The author took care to maintain a detailed narrative. I will look forward to the next book in this series

A good story, predates the film

I’m seeing people claiming this is isn’t the full book, or it’s attached to the new film. Problem with that is this audio book came out years before the new movie was ever announced and it’s just recently been given a new cover to match the film(much like the Hobbit). As for if it’s the full book or not I see no reason to believe it’s not the full book, and it’s currently the longest audio book in English for Dune. The one in Spanish is longer but that could very well be due simply to differences in language.

As for the book itself it’s a good story and I wish they would have done the special voices for different characters all through the book but the narrator isn’t bad to listen to.

This book is distractingly good

There were quite a few moments I found myself pausing to appreciate when the structure was very clearly trying to set my expectations one way and it was necessary to take a moment to go back and engage with the text to determine if it was a trap or a true revelation of the future.
A bit like Paul in that way, I guess.

Amazing

My expectations weren’t high. It didn’t take long at all to become a fully caught up in this story and by the end, I couldn’t stop listening

Read after watching 2021 movie

The story was great. Very grand and scale and I can't wait to see how the movie approaches the second half. Main gripe about the audiobook is the sporadic change in the narrator doing the voices of the characters, and voice actors doing the voices. It would throw me off when the narrator does a different impression of character mannerisms then the actual voice actors, so if I wasn't paying strong attention then I would lose track of who's speaking and when. I wish the whole book was properly narrated with voice actors since the voice actors they chose had excellent performance.

Great Story, Strange Production

I listened to this for the first time after watching the newest movie (which I thought was incredible), so I can't attest to other reviews pointing out that parts of the original book were omitted. That being said, the character voicings sometimes being the narrator and sometimes being other voice actors left a lot to be desired. Chapters start off with multiple voice actors playing parts, and a few paragraphs in it would change to only the narrator's rendition of the characters for the rest of the chapter. Sometimes they even through a few lines of dialog by the voice actors in the middle of the chapters interspersed with the narrator's voicings. it was a weird production choice and made the overall feel of the book lose momentum in key places. That doesn't take away from a great performance by both the narrator and the voice actors; it's just to say if you're going to do one or the other, stick to it.

Great story. Awkward performance.

The story is great, but the performances switch between a single reader and an ensemble cast. I wish it were just a single reader.
