NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

An Epic Read!

A wonderful mixture of Royal Family Politics with a technically advanced and space faring human race. Blended very well with suspense and satisfying culmination.

Extremely iconic story, horrible audio production

Alternate chapters are narrated singlehandedly by the excellent Simon Vance, or by a cast of mediocre other voice actors. Like, wut? Super unnecessary and distracting.

Story was great. Herbert focuses very much on Paul and his development into the role of Muad'Dib, but the world and galaxy of Dune is so interesting I wish he'd given more time to fleshing out the politics and economics of the Guild, Landsraad, CHOAM, melange, etc.

I Love This Series

What did you love best about Dune?

I started out listening to Dune and now have purchased the entire series. I thoroughly enjoy these stories and the narrating is wonderful. I love Simon Vance as a narrator.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course, Paul Atreides, but there are so many great characters in this series it is hard to choose just one.`

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think the emotion and inflection of the characters truly come through when you listen. As a child, I was read to and this reminds so much of those times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not particularly. I just love all the books and cannot narrow it down to one moment.

great story

Zolid story, with a great narrator. With just enough bells and whistles to help create suspended disbelief

Great Book

One of the best sci-fi novels of all time! It's a must read if you love fantasy or sci-fi. The changing of narrators barely got on my nerves, but it's something to consider. You would expect every time that certain character speaks it would keep with the same narrators voice, but it doesn't. Some times it's the main narrator speaking and sometimes it's back to a specific person playing that character. That is my only complaint.

Needs More Chapter Breaks

This book and the production are true masterpieces, but as I often listen to books on a sleep timer, the lack of customer breaks is really annoying. I'd the book we're broken up into shorter segments it'd be a perfect 5 stars.

great book. I could not stop listening. Wish there was some more character building as I felt we jumped around and sped through the timeline but overall a fantastic book

Confusing

Different performers played the same character. Stilgar, Baron Harkonen were voiced by different people. Confusing.
