Audie Award winner, 2008

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

A very fine audiobook.

I'm am old man. I've read science fiction since I was a boy. Frank Herbert's Dune is the finest SF book I have ever read. This audiobook is the finest production I have heard. Not just a single narrarator doing voices, MANY different ones. Music and sounds making this production like the best radio plays not just dry narration. I cannot express
how much praise it deserves. 5++++ stars

Classic Sci - fi

Very good. Classic science fiction. Was slightly annoyed by the narrator. Also wasn't a full cast so sometimes woild interchange between cast voices and the narrator, which was hard to follow at times and was less than ideal.

Whoa! Needed a followup to LOTR ... rivals it to the Tee

What a good book!
I can’t wait to hear the rest , I kept finding excuses to stay tucked away from people just to hear the next words unfold.
Great story and performance.
Complicated and political but this is filling to me and I’ve enjoyed that about it

A Work of Art

I absolutely loved this book, it was beautifully done! I decided to read it due to the inspiration that the Fifth Element took from it and The Incal.

Great book with insightful perfromance

Dune and the rest of Herbert’s series are incredible. His characters have deep and believable motivations, unique thought processes, and constantly developing identities and loyalties. His ability to hint at incredible historic age and diverse cultures is amazing, without falling into the epic styles which necessitate explaining every piece of those histories. They exist for the characters, but we get only what we need in a ‘see, not tell’ format.

The audiobook performance is wonderful, both clear and penetrating. Characters who put on airs during certain occasions are voiced differently during those times, which is a huge aid to clarity of meaning. When reading, imagined tone is easily molded to fit the meaning of the words, but with audio the proper style and inflection are critical, because our ability to supplant that which we hear performed is limited. This approach, with radically different voicing for the characters and the masks they wear elevates the reading, and made this book a joy to hear.

Dune - Not the Movie

Performance: Excellent. Nothing else needs to be said.

Story: It depends on your point of view if you are to rate this book five or four stars. The book can become overly too descriptive, too much detail. The thought processes of the characters too doubtful and inwardly turn for reality. However, I considered this may be true process for other people. Thus, the book became immerse in what each prime character was thinking or feeling. However, it was unique in its language and story line.

Note: It was interesting to see how the movie was different from the book. I do not know why the script writers changed some of the details of characters and one critical thread: the emperor and the guild wanting to kill Paul from the beginning of the book. Interesting revisions of the book but I do not know the purpose of these decisions.

Masterpiece...

This production of the book is a masterpiece. The transition into and out of the enhanced scenes with specific voice actors is a brilliant way to add to the intensity of important aspects of the story.
