Publisher's Summary

With the War treaty signed, the Galactic Fleet is now on permanent stand down. But a treaty doesn't mean an end to the violence, corruption, piracy, or tyranny in the galaxy. The Galactic Fleet's solution is a crack team of Special Ops Marines: Drop Team Zero.

Made up of the absolute fighting best from humans, alien races, hybrids, and even AI androids, Drop Team Zero is called on to handle the worst of the worst, missions that others would tag as pure suicide. But when Drop Team Zero arrives, the only threat of suicide is for the ones that stand in their way.

    "Excellent Series Start"

This book was action packed and an enjoyable listen. The narration was perfect with each character having a well defined voice and speech pattern. The book ends with few questions answered and many more posed.

"A sci-fi universe to rival star wars"

Author and narrator combine to bring you into another facet of an ever expanding universe that rivals Star Wars in depth of races, characters, tech and more. I find the universe and characters to be a more edgy modernized group that really brings you in and keeps you there as the author reveals more and more to you each time you get a new story. What direction is the universe heading? Will the various groups and characters meet up for one amazing conclusive culmination of the various story lines
Or will they drift through their own sections of the universe? I don't know but I sure am enjoying the time and can't wait for the next bit. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

"Will wait for the next one"
What about Andrew B. Wehrlen’s performance did you like?

I was able to distinguish between the different characters based on the accent / lingo the narrator used for each of them. Never was I lost about who said what.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The story line was engaging and there were sequences where I couldn't press pause to stop for the day. I had to know what happened next. But that doesn't apply to the entire book. I finished the book over a few days.

    Any additional comments?

The book was a good timepass while I waited for few episodes of Expanse to have aired. I like stories like the one in this book and imagine myself at the center of it. This particular book was able to keep me interested, even though it gets flat at parts. Overall, not bad.

    "Spec Ops in Space"
If you could sum up Drop Team Zero in three words, what would they be?

    Space
    Action
    Special Operations

What did you like best about this story?

The pacing is good. There are no boring parts. I will listen to the next book in the series when it comes out.

What about Andrew B. Wehrlen’s performance did you like?

Andrew's voice is pleasant but his characterization of some species did not come though. For instance the bear species did not sound bear like at all but snake species had exaggerated s sounds.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Into Danger.

    "Varied collection of dangerous warriors."

The war may have ended, but that doesn’t lessen the need for special teams to do the necessary dirty work. Our varied collection of dangerous warriors, known as Drop Team Zero, answers the call. The current mission is to return the kidnapped son of an important Councilman, but as they enter the enemy’s mansion they find much more than they bargained for. They succeed of course using their variety of special abilities and make off with not only the mission’s goal, but the bad-ass leader as well. Back at headquarters they turn over their charges, resupply and nourish themselves preparing for the next mission. Zero is ordered to take the son home and then take the captive to a Black Site (sort of safe house) in one of the most dangerous sectors, known as the Klatu System. There they are to interrogate the captive and inspect the defenses of the Black Site. Of course leaving the home port with their precious cargo is the first problem. And from there the problems only mount exponentially. The only easy day was yesterday. Trivia; new world vocabulary faux = fuc*, crud = sh*t, chits = money…civilized progress? The characters are quite interesting although a little more background on each species and why they are in Zero would have been educational. Not a bad tale and lots of action, but the politics are somewhat confusing. Three.point.five for the effort. "You'd like to be a part of this team."

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
This book lives up to it's description. Lots of space actions and space science. A good story with character development that makes you care about the characters. That being said the different races of beings interact with a cultural norm that is a little hard to believe. Even more homogenous than Star Wars.
I liked the book. It satisfied my sci-fi craving.

    "Didn't really work for me."
    Any additional comments?

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this audio title for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

While not horrible, this book just didn't really work for me. Now I understand that this is probably meant to be the first book in a series, and as such I wouldn't have been surprised for there still to be a few questions left unanswered when I reached the end, but quite honestly I felt nothing at all had been answered. Second problem is that it felt way too busy. So many characters, so many species. It felt like the author wanted to prove he had a vivid imagination, which he clearly does, but it seemed like every character in the book was a different species, each with the own crazy details, trying to keep track of them all was a nightmares. Seriously there are had to be more than 25 different creatures to try and keep track of. I'd say save some for the sequel, but I have no doubt Mr. Bible has plenty of new ones already planned out for the next book. Sadly, with all those characters, I didn't actually come to care about any of them. Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for the good guys, but I wouldn't have been upset had they died. Last but not least, the thing that drove me nut with this book was the the authors decision to make up silly words to replace swears. You want to swear, swear, but making up fake words to replace them just drove me nuts. I understand network TV shows doing this, they pretty much have it, and in some novels it feels natural/right, but here it just felt silly and excessive. Seriously it was fo this, and fo, and we're fo'd!!! Seriously, if I heard fo one more time I was going to lose my foing mind!

I know this review may sound negative, but the truth is there was some good action. It was just overshadowed by too many characters, too many creatures, and too many fake foing expletives. I'd actually consider checking out one of his other books, but I don't know that I could handle a sequel to this one.

    "Worth a listen."

    Story
Jake Bible crafts a good story that is well paced and interesting. A Story about an elite team of special forces, out to complete their mission. A simple premise that stands up well due to the quality of the writing and characters.Clearly meant to be the fist part of a plot line I look forward to seeing what happens in the next book.

The setting seems to have a lot of possibilities as well, lots of alien races, different factions, past conflicts. There is a lot of space for things to happen in this setting be it other books, games, films or what ever.

    Cast
Interesting, each with their own personality and motivations. I would like to listen to more books with the same core cast, Jake Bible seems to have a talent for creating characters and having them all be distinct and well written. You could put the characters in any situation and their interactions would make it interesting due to their banter.

As expected in group of special forces the characters seem a little over powered yet still mortal. Importantly they can still face risk and be threatened.

    Narration
Andrew B. Wehrlen does a good job, each character has their own voice and way of speaking which adds to the immersion and enjoyment of the audio book. I like what they add to the experience and will be happy to listen to more books narrated by Andrew B. Wehrlen

(This is just my preference but as I listen to audio books at I work I found the narration to be just a little too fast unless you can focus completely on the book, Setting it to 90%-95% speed on the app fixed that making it much easier to follow when doing housework, walking or any other task you may listen to audio books when doing.)

    Summery
Well worth a listen. My only question is what happens next?
