Publisher's summary

Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and recently turned vampire Merit can't tell if this is the darkness before the dawn or the calm before the storm. With the city itself in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal-registration act, times haven't been this precarious for vampires since they came out of the closet. If only they could lay for a bit, and let the mortals calm down.

That's when the waters of Lake Michigan suddenly turn pitch black - and things really start getting ugly. Chicago's mayor insists it's nothing to worry about, but Merit knows only the darkest magic could have woven a spell powerful enough to change the very fabric of nature. She'll have to turn to friends old and new to find out who's behind this, and stop them before it's too late for vampires and humans alike.

Unexpected Ending

Any additional comments?

I liked the storyline, it held my interest. The ending was unexpected and very welcome because the ending of the last book was so disappointing. For those upset about the last book they should really listen to this one before passing judgement. Everything ties together in the end.

One of the better Vampire series.

I enjoy Neill's protagonist. There is a great deal of humor. This story-line is well plotted and well thought out. It's a good romp.

Narrator needs pronunciation lessons

What did you like best about this story?

Story line has some more twists and turns that will surprise. Thought I knew what was going on.....I was wrong.

What didn’t you like about Cynthia Holloway’s performance?

AudioBook Review: Narrator is at it again. She doesn't seem to know how to pronounce many common words like acumen. And there were a few more I noticed as well. Narrator still is mixing up male voices and give numerous male characters the same voice. We'll see what happens in the next book. I understand there is a new narrator for the next few books of the series at least. We'll see how she does. Can't be much worse.

Surprise

Well I was hoping you would bring Ethan back using Mallory but I didn't see it coming that way. I never saw or thought about Mallory giving in to black magic.

Keep at it

A little slower than the others, but hey, life is like that. Still she keeps building the characters so you want to know whats next.

Story and Character Development at its best!

I really enjoyed the storyline and all the characters! It had enough depth and range for all listeners.

Narrator drives me nuts with mispronounced words!

The series is fun and engaging. I like the depth of the characters as they develop.

The narrator, though, has some serious problems with several words that are commonly used. (Acumen pronounced like a-cumin.). It is distracting and annoying. I've listened to other series that she's narrated and did not notice this many errors. Aren't audio editions edited like print versions? If I were the author, I would be unhappy that my work was being so poorly presented.
Hoping the next book with new narrator will be better read.

As for tge author, it grates on my nerves that she calls grown men “boys.” Why not say “guys.” Boys sounds so childish and silly.
