In Dragonspell, Donita K. Paul has created an amazing world of fantasy adventure. From riding on dragons to jumping off cliffs to moving mountains, this story is sure to spark a reader's imagination-young and old. I'm Enthralled by Donita K. Paul & Audible Books!

Would you listen to DragonSpell again? Why?

I plan on listening to this whole series again. I stumbled on her books by looking for Anne McCaffrey by doing a search for "Dragon". I'd never heard of Donita K. Paul or her books, before, but now I'm addicted. I'm also addicted to Audible Books, now, too. I'm not a very good reader, but have always loved listening to people's Stories, so Audible Books is just the thing for me!

What did you like best about this story?

I most enjoyed the way Magik is used & how it follows the Laws of Quantum Physics. Also, the complimentary relationship between Dragons & people.

Which character – as performed by Ellen Grafton – was your favorite?

Kale has to be my favorite character. It's heartwarming to watch her grow & mature throughout the series.

I liked the way Ellen Grafton had different "Voices" & accents for the various characters. She does a marvelous job of keeping all the Voices straight. So it's more real than just listening to a "flat" narration. The Voices bring the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm now addicted to Audible Books & have bought many more than I intended to. LOL!

I like Donita K. Paul's Sense of Hummer. She makes me laugh & cry. She has a gift for bringing her characters to life & making me identify with them. She's my new favorite author & I've fallen in love with these books. I especially like Principle Quoting Bardon. His character is able to instill Morals & Ethics into the Story without being preachy.

Any additional comments?

Listening to Stories (Audible Books) versus watching TV, stimulates the Imagination Center in the brain. I can Feel extra blood flow as the "Movie" plays out in my "Mind's Eye"!

Felt like a sermon

I usually like any story with non-evil dragons in it, but this one was hard to sit through. The dragons themselves were one-dimensional, little more than props. The two dragons may as well have been replaced with a healing stone and a singing stone.

The story was meant to be an adventure, but it had no drama. Any time anyone was in "danger" it was clear that Jesus, I mean Paladin, or God, I mean Walder, would step in and save them. Either that or their own faith in Paladin/Walder would save them.

The periods of "danger" were mixed with regular breaks of showing how good and perfect all the "high races" were or how evil the "low races" were. Just like in many religions, either you were a "chosen" one, or you were damned.
With the lack of drama, I would say this would be a good book for young kids, except that the story is a thinly veiled attempt to brainwash them into embracing Christianity or some similar religion. Anecdotes about how wonderful and amazing Paladin and Walder are were followed by descriptions of rapturous joy filled with the presence of Walder that made no sense. This might be followed by a lecture about how Walder's plan is far too complicated for you to understand and you need to mindlessly follow Walder and everything will work out. Finally, you might learn that Satan, I mean Pretender, was the ultimate evil and if you didn't follow Walder's plan, you'd end up in Hell, I mean "The Void". Ack.

So, if you're a devoutly religious person, you may love this book, but for anyone looking for an interesting or well-written story instead of a preachy sermon, look elsewhere.

A great book for kids and grownups

A story for all. This is a story of faith and friendships amoung many of different races. How all peoples can work together with a common goal and accepting each other as is.

Children's Book

Probably 8 and up. It's horrible and i atopped listening after about 2 hours. Just couldn't finish it. The narrator sounds like a young child too, with little to no separate, distinctive character voices.

Great book for bed time

This book is very interesting. It certainly kept me hooked until the very end. The beginning was a bit confusing and there were a few anti-climatic moments but overall an excellent book.
