Publisher's summary

After his mother, the beloved Rebel Queen, is betrayed and murdered by her own faithless lords, young Maric becomes the leader of a rebel army attempting to free his nation from the control of a foreign tyrant. His countrymen live in fear; his commanders consider him untested; and his only allies are Loghain, a brash young outlaw who saved his life, and Rowan, the beautiful warrior maiden promised to him since birth.

Surrounded by spies and traitors, Maric must find a way to not only survive but achieve his ultimate destiny: Ferelden’s freedom and the return of his line to the stolen throne.

A Wonderful Epic Adventure

This book is wonderful you are immediately captivated by the story. Stephen Hoye's voice is exactly what I hoped for he paints the picture of this story beautifully. I wasn't able to stop listening. This reminds me of people sitting around the radio before the days of television. Just Fantastic!!!

A Great Prequel for Dragon Age

The novel is essential reading for those who have played Dragon Age and want to know more about origins briefly mentioned in the game especially Loghain.

A story that will bring even more life to origins

Dragon age stolen throne there’s a story that tells the origin of King Merrick and lohgain. The story itself is written very well and truly let you see the thoughts and what became of lohgain by the time we meet him in origins. This story has wonder and adventure but much sorrow and loss. The reader does a good job of telling its story specifically lohgains parts. But has a hard time portaging rage or anguish.

A worthy adventure.

The writing is captivating and the story is engaging throughout, but falls flat at the end. The book dives into medieval fantasy, during a time of rebellion. A love triangle is revealed and the bonds of betrothal are tested. The characters in this book are really well built and the protagonist gets some really good character development. I understand this is based on the successful video game series and I appreciate the backstory, unfortunately, I do feel like the story loses strength at the end. The reader is built up with an exciting story only for the climax to be moderately exciting, yet weirdly unsatisfying. However, I did find the story enjoyable and would recommend the read to anyone who enjoys the games.

An intriguingly linked story, littered with cliche

This tale was one told as someone looking for the grit of ruling would tell it. The characters are flat and stereotypical, the settings reliant more on the game serious than capable of holding themselves up alone, and the drama forced and artificial.

There is a direct polar opposition from a classically malevolent force. The only bit of variance from this comes very late in the tale.

Nonetheless, it was an enjoying read, and offers plenty of background information on an excellent video game series.

Must read for Dragon Age lovers...

This story provided great insight into the dragon age series, and the narrator provided a great mix of voices to get lost in.
