In 1945, a strange new craze for Truth Tellers is sweeping the kids of small-town America. The Fifth Doctor and Nyssa soon arrive to investigate the phenomenon, only to discover that the actual truth behind the Truth Tellers is far more sinister than anyone could have imagined...
Author Patrick Ness puts his own unique spin on the Doctor, his terrifying alien enemies and time-travelling adventures.

I am an American who has never seen or read Doctor Who. I did not know where to start. There seems to be several Doctors. I am a fan of Patrick Ness, so when I saw he had a Doctor Who Story, I decided to start there. I really liked it. The story is similar to his Chaos Walking Series. In The Knife of Never Letting Go, people can read each other's minds. In this story, in an alternate United States, it is fashionable to wear a Truth Teller. The Truth Teller repeats what is on your mind, such as, you have fat thighs, etc...
This seems to be Science Fiction bordering on Fantasy. I loved it and plan on trying more Doctor Who from other authors.
Interesting story but it doesn't really focus on the doctor or the aliens. Does paint an interesting picture of small town life during WW2
"A taste of what's to come ?"
I noticed that there is a recording of 11 different different Doctor Who stories to mark the 50th anniversary, so i thought i would buy an individual one to see if the collection was worth my credit. Well, i have now purchased the collection and whatever it delivers , I think that this story alone is probably worth it !
Great concept, well told, funny and with great warmth . I loved it .
For me, this story is a little piece of magic , worthy of the doctor himself !
