Genuinely spooky

This one’s a quick read/listen and pretty unique as it’s told from the doctors pov. An audio story about an audio monster, it was a bit spooky as I listened in bed.

Really Enjoyable for Doctor Who fans!

Dead Air by James Goss is a story featuring the tenth Doctor, as portrayed by David Tennant. It seems the Doctor going back to the 60s to track down a creature that could take over (and destroy) the world through the radios. The Doctor lands on a ship, where a radio station is broadcasting from, and tries to find a way to defeat the creature.

I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and since the show is on a break I've been listening to a lot of the stories on audiobook. Of the new Doctors my favourite was David Tennant and I love seeing how many of these stories he's narrated. It's great to hear his voice and go on a new adventure. As I'm also a mystery I love trying to figure out parts of the story and see if I can clue in to how the Doctor will defeat the monster. This story threw me a big curveball at the end that I didn't see coming - thankfully for humanity the Doctor did!!

I really enjoyed this one and I loved David Tennant's narration. Since he played the part of the Doctor he was perfect to narrate. He also provided really good voices to the other characters. I definitely plan to listen to more Doctor Who stories on audiobook format.

Interesting premise

Where does Doctor Who rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A little under middle.

Would you recommend Doctor Who to your friends? Why or why not?

Generally yes.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the doctor was "swallowed" for a time.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No

Any additional comments?

This story, while an interesting and unique idea, just didn't hold my interest very well, but I am not a huge Doctor fan yet.

David Tennant impeccable as always

Between Tennant's wonderful narration and the intriguing concept of the book, this is my favorite Dr. Who audio book. I am admittedly biased given that the 10th Doctor is my favorite (though I have a definite fondness for Tom Baker who was the Doctor I grew up watching) but something about the "found tape" concept, coupled with the historical trivia concerning British pirate radio period, makes this work for me in both the tradition of classic Dr. Who as well as the reboot.

Amazing job.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course, this was by far the first audio book i listened to. And it got me hooked.

What did you like best about this story?

The point of view of this is narrated by the doctor himself, while in the story. Sort of like a diary, unlike most, if not all of the other dr who books, where its in the 3rd person. This made the personality of the 10th doctor really come out in the books narrative, that you dont see so much of in some of the others.

Which character – as performed by David Tennant – was your favorite?

Layla's character was funny to listen to since it seems that he used his real Scottish accent for it

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh constantly, It was like watching a movie, but without the picture. Lots of funny moments, not to mention the voices he makes.

fun, perfect for fans of Tennant and the show

Any additional comments?

The Doctor boards Radio Bravo, a pirate radio station in the year 1966. Here he encounters Layla, Tomah, and Jasper the crew who shares music illegally. He has tracked the Hush to this ship. A monster that devours noise leaving only silence in its wake. The Doctor is convinced it is looking to broadcast through the transmitter on board with plans to silence the world. Layla was the most fleshed out of the secondary characters. Much like the show we dive head first into the action and receive information along with the secondary characters. The Doctor was his usual snarky, conceited and of course brilliant self. The narrative is first person from the Doctor’s pov and felt like a story being retold. The tale had clever moments, suspense, humor and a few twists as the Doctor faced his opponent.

David narrated the entire story solo, giving unique voices and accents to the others aboard the ship. I was quickly able to identify each. Tennant spoke in his native accent a wonderful Scottish brogue. I must admit I missed David’s British accent created for the tenth Doctor. Having said that David makes an excellent narrator, and I will be on the lookout for more books narrated by him. The soundtrack came complete with sound effects that added to the suspense. It felt like I was listening to an episode on the television complete with cuts for commercial breaks were we heard the TV show’s soundtrack.

FANTASTIC!

I didn't finish the ending, just because the doctor gave a warning! my kids have been begging me for the last 10 min to finish it and i just can't.
of course David Tennant always does an AMAZING job and makes each character distinctively different!
really nice to listen to in the car or while doing chores and it's just long enough where i don't get too distracted.
overall 11/10!

Brilliant!

Doctor Who audiobook narrated by David Tennant? Don't mind if I do! If you are a Doctor Who fan and love the tenth doctor, this is a must listen. The episode is perfectly suited to audio format. This is more on the creepy side so may be better suited towards adults and older kids.
