You may know me best as Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie. Or perhaps as Merry Gentry, Los Angeles private eye. In the fey and mortal realms alike, my life is the stuff of royal intrigue and celebrity drama. Among my own, I have confronted horrendous enemies, endured my noble kins treachery and malevolence, and honored my duty to conceive a royal heirall for the right to claim the throne. But I turned my back on court and crown, choosing exile in the human world and in the arms of my beloved Frost and Darkness.
While I may have rejected the monarchy, I cannot abandon my people. Someone is killing the fey, which has left the LAPD baffled and my guardsmen and me deeply disturbed. My kind are not easily captured or killed. At least not by mortals. I must get to the bottom of these horrendous murders, even if that means going up against Gilda, the Fairy Godmother, my rival for fey loyalties in Los Angeles.
But even stranger things are happening. Mortals I once healed with magic are suddenly performing miracles, a shocking phenomenon wreaking havoc on human/faerie relations. Though I am innocent, dark suspicions of banned magical activities swirl around me.
I thought I had left the blood and politics behind in my own turbulent realm. I had dreamed of an idyllic life in sunny L.A. with my beloved ones beside me. But it becomes time to wake up and realize that evil knows no borders, and that nobody lives forever even if they're magical.

Narrator, sounds less lively than previous one, in addition narrator voice sounds like that of a grandma with dry mouth.....which is pretty disturbing on some erotic scenes.
The story itself, I been following Laurell K. Hamilton's work for over a decade.
A different, younger and more lively narrator.
Maybe, most movies don't give justice to books.
PLEASE, please change narrator, fowarding book on the sex scenes because listening to the grandma with the dry mouth is just ....wrong.
I've listened to this whole series and while it starts off great the later books seem to be grasping for story. This one was especially bad. Introducing characters and spending entire chapters filling in their history, the history of their people group, then just dropping them (well they reference them once). This final book really just seemed like it was grasping at the last dollars of a series that had already run it's course.
I don't feel it was a total waste of my time but I won't be listening to this again.
keeps you captivated throughout. I have been an avid reader of these for quite sometime
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. ~Attributed to Groucho Marx
This is not the same Laural Merlington that read the other books, her voice is too shrill, she sounds like she does not care about the story, she sounds lazy
Does not matter since there is a book 9
Please find another reader, because I don't know what happened to Laural Merlington voice, maybe she is tired of Meredith.
Anyone who doesn't mind the "slutty" and numerous sex scenes should enjoy this book. Not for me, I gave up romance novels a long time ago.
All of the extremely descriptive sex. I thought the book was a fantasy novel or I would not have bought it.
All of the characters were equally well performed by the narrator.
I omit all of the porn, and just leave a hint of what transpired between the characters.
This was a great book I enjoyed every minute of it. The narrator was wonderful she made every character come alive and each character memorable and individual.
NO!!! Because you only get 1/2 the book on audible.com...So I had to buy the printed version to read the other 1/2.
All of the Meredith Gentry books are great.
I've read /listened to every book in this series and have enjoyed all of them, even this one, even though it lagged a bit for me (did she really have to have sex every time she saw one of her men????), but it was still worth the credit for me.
The first seven books in the series are fun and spectacular. This latest one takes off on a very different tangent than the other books and leaves A LOT of questions lingering for answers since Swallowing Darkness. I had a very hard time getting through this book. I would never have started the series if this was the first book... harsh, but true. Hopefully the next book goes back to its roots.
All of the Meredith Gentry books were GREAT! I'm still waiting for he next one come to come out. I wish Laurell could write faster. LOL You wont be sorry when purchasing any of her books.
