Story
From the internationally best-selling author of the Sword of Truth series comes a new Richard and Kahlan novella. "They are the monsters under the bed when you are little, the shape just caught out of the corner of your eye when you thought you were alone, the shadow of something in a dark corner that surprises you and then isn't there. They stop you dead with a knot of unexpected terror in the pit of your stomach. I think that the star shift has brought us closer to their realm so that they now have the power to step into our world and hurt us."

Publisher's summary
King Boric the Implacable knows death comes to all great warriors. He just didn't expect it to be so damn fickle. Felled by an assassin's blade, he should be spending eternity carousing in the Hall of Avandoor. Instead, his spirit is bound to his decaying body by the enchanted sword of Brakslaagt. And unless he can hunt down the mysterious Lord Brand, who gave him the weapon so long ago, he is cursed to wander the earth forever as an undead wraith. So begins Boric's extraordinary journey across the Six Kingdoms of Dis as a walking corpse who wants nothing more than to be disenchanted and left in peace. His is not an easy quest: along the way he is burned, riddled with arrows, and nearly blown to bits. But when he finally comes face-to-face with Lord Brand, Boric will discover that nothing - in life, in death, or in between - is exactly what it seems.

Story
Meet Karn. He is destined to take over the family farm in Norrøngard. His only problem? He'd rather be playing the board game Thrones and Bones. Enter Thianna. Half human, half frost giantess. She's too tall to blend in with other humans but too short to be taken seriously as a giant. When family intrigues force Karn and Thianna to flee into the wilderness, they have to keep their sense of humor and their wits about them. But survival can be challenging when you're being chased by a 1,500-year-old dragon, an evil uncle, wyverns, and an assortment of trolls and giants.

Any additional comments?
I found this and the second book in the series to be good in between books. They filled the space between my usual listens and I don't regret having listened to them. Overall entertaining and worth the money.

Lots of laughs :)
Would you listen to Disenchanted again? Why?
Sure I would, gonna do just that soon :)
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughed so hard at the "bored guards - desperate sheep" part, but cant say much more without spoiling it for new readers.
Any additional comments?
Much much better than the Mercury serie!! This book is actually funny :D

Cannot decide what it wants to be
Comedy, sword fantasy, philosophical adventure? Dis cannot decide what it wants to be. There is just enough of each to keep you listening, but not enough of any to push it over the top.

Nice story if you don't expect too much
It's a good time-waster, nothing great, nothing bad. Not a page-turner, but not into-a-basket-dropper.
The plot is mostly predictable, there are no memorable quotes or post-modern-style innuendoes, the humor is solid though sometimes of toilet variety.
And yet somehow it's quite endearing.
The performance is VERY good.

Great story, until the end chapter.
Spoilers
It has a part where it mentions that the after life Borik has been attempting to reach is actually a prison for restless warriors who can't let go of their war lust and violent tendencies. When Borik asks the Maiden what about female warriors, she just says that females never go there because they can easily separate their violent tendencies and go to the regular non prison heaven.
This kinda stings a bit since it is just blatant sexism out of no where, just showing men as uncontrollable savages, does not help that the only real female characters are victims or rational thinkers.
Otherwise, good story gutted by a bad ending that left a horrible taste.

I probably enjoyed this more than I should have
I had a great time listening to this book. It's very obviously a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the grand adventures where the hero ends up in Valhalla, but with a fun plot twist. At no time does the author take himself too seriously, yet there is a moral to the story.
The narrator does a great job of being pompous, again without overdoing. Well done!

Delightful and Fun
Any additional comments?
This was an unexpected delight. I picked it up in one of Audible's "Hidden Gems" sales. Well written and wonderfully read. It started off over the top and I was slightly worried it would continue so, but the author settled into a story which, while lampooning the fantasy genre brilliantly, was a well told and interesting story. I actually cared about the characters. I laughed out loud a few times. I sniffled a little at the end. It's not all suicidal sheep.

ehhhhhhh???
Some funny moments (especially in the beginning) but otherwise a boring and corney story. It was hardly an adventure. I had a hard time making it through to the end and when I finally did, I question myself why I went through the effort.
