Publisher's summary

A rich Komarran merchant fleet has been impounded at Graf Station in distant Quaddiespace after a bloody incident involving the convoy's Barrayaran military escort. Lord Miles Vorkosigan and his wife, Lady Ekaterin, have other things on their minds, such as getting home in time to attend the long-awaited births of their first children. But when duty calls in the voice of Barrayar's Emperor Gregor, Miles, as imperial auditor, has no choice but to answer.

Waiting on Graf Station are diplomatic snarls, tangled loyalties, old friends, new enemies, racial tensions, lies and deceptions, mysterious disappearances, and a race with time for life against death in horrifying new forms. The downside of being a high-level troubleshooter comes when trouble starts shooting back.

Not the best Vorkosigan but still a great story

What made the experience of listening to Diplomatic Immunity the most enjoyable?

This is a story of the mature Miles - married and expecting his first two children, he's off on another jaunt as Lord Auditor. His age and accumulated injuries have slowed down his "forward momentum" a little, so it's fun to see how he solves problems while being slightly less madcap than the younger Miles.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Miles, Miles, Miles. OK, it was good to see Bel Thorne again, but Miles is what makes these stories.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator is OK but nothing special. His voice is very easy to follow, but doesn't bring any special spark of life to the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh no. I love stretching out the enjoyment of a Miles Vorkosigan story over days. Though I often find I need to do just a few more chores around the house so I can listen just a few more minutes...

Any additional comments?

If you're new to the Vorkosigan stories, don't start here - start with some of the earlier stories like The Vor Game, and follow Miles through time until you get here. You'll be glad you did.

As usual, Lois McMaster Bujold provides an excellent story with excitement

Lois McMaster Bujold delivers in the finest sense of the word an excellent story. Marriage has only improved the lives of her characters. They are witty and charismatic and brilliant to study as she whips us to frenzies of worry and excitement.

I wish she'd written more books with Cordelia and Aral as lead characters. They are very charismatic and intriguing. But, she never fails withMilesa nod

Another great addition to the saga

This story doesn't disappoint, but may have a little more fluff than we are used to with the series. In the end it redeems itself and comes through. Kept me on my toes wondering how it would come to a finish.

Excellently done!

Miles Vorkosigan is a terrific character, and Ms. Bujold has kept his stories well-plotted and entertaining from 'Shards of Honor' right through 'Diplomatic Immunity'. Grover Gardner does a very good job of reading the tales.

I am so pleased that all the Miles Vorkosigan books are finally in audio format. Listening makes the stories fresh and new, and Gardner has captured Miles' quirky personality in the voice Miles has been given.

Good not great

While I enjoyed it, I didn't feel that there was much here to set it apart from some of the other, better stories in this series. I would recommend this series to a friend, this book included, but I would start somewhere else.

The funniest of the series so far!

Any additional comments?

I have really been enjoying Lois McMaster Bujold's series, but this was, by far, the best yet. Of course, by now, we have all met Miles and are aware of his talents for trouble and escape and are probably all delighted by his creativity in both areas. But in this book, Bujold really cooked up a joy. The dinner party is hysterical and characters really shine! Overall, a great story and an immensely satisfying and engaging telling of it. If you have not read all of the series, go back and start at the beginning! You will not be sorry you did.
