Publisher's summary

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But he also knows that whenever things are going good, the only way left for them to go is bad. Way bad. Recent examples: A duel with the lethal champion of the Red Court, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards...Hit men using Harry for target practice...The missing Shroud of Turin - and the possible involvement of Chicago's most feared mob boss...A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified...Not to mention the return of Harry's ex-girlfriend Susan, who's still struggling with her semi-vampiric nature - and who seems to have a new man in her life. Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you're charging.

Just a touch.

A wonderful story about an old school style dick with touch of magic and love.

vampires, duels and a lost object

We spend time with Michael, his family and other Knights of the Cross as Harry finds himself dealing with a vampire of the Red Court who wants a duel and a priest who wants Harry to find a lost object for him. Easy right? Wrong. It seems others want it as well and are even willing to kill for it.

In the meantime, Harry’s old girlfriend Susan shows up and things get mighty interesting. Her return allows Harry to move forward so to speak. We get a little romance and even some heated scenes as these two make peace. Susan grew on me a little, as you might remember I wasn’t her biggest fan, but by book end, I won’t be if she becomes a larger part of Harry’s story.

I love the secondary characters like Thomas, John Marconi, and Karin. With each book we see Harry go through growth and this remains true in Death Masks. While Harry may come off as sexist and often pessimistic, I cannot help but love him. He feels real, heck all of the characters feel real; ugly flaws and all. At his core he is a really good guy trying to protect the innocent.

Butcher shares some things that make me wonder how much of this world we do not yet understand. It had me excited.

As I’ve stated previously I’ve bought all of the audios. James Marsters has become the voice for these characters and I can’t fathom not listening.

This almost gained a five cup rating, but I wanted more from the ending. I will let you decide. Fans of snark, the supernatural world and private eyes who carry a staff will want to check out this urban fantasy series. Each book is stronger than its predecessor and I cannot wait to being the next audio.

Still quite good

The story and the reading were a little flat compared the previous books but still good. Another good book and performance.

Great Book

The story and performance were on par with what I've come to expect from Jim and James. My only objection is a random feedback screech that began during Chapter 4. This could be due to Audible itself or simply my hardware.

Great addition to the series

This might have been my favorite. And I think that the reader did his best job so far.

Holy. Bedspread, Batman! Exhilerating ride.

Harry is the most unlikely Avenger in a most Unholy War. the great race to save a sacred artifact, mankind and a new friend is the most amazing challenge Harry must face.

Another fine story

In this story, some of the characters get fleshed out and new criminals are introduced. Most enjoyable.
