Publisher's summary

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his "child", Pam, are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot - which is much more complicated than she knows.

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no, but her voice and the character's voice/accent seem well matched up

Fun but sometimes

I love Sukie and I think her character is adorable but sometimes she doesn't think. For example, When a woman comes on her property with a gun and tries to kill her it really is okay for her to call the police to tell them that she has shot someone in self-defense.

I love Sookie, but this book was a bummer.

Ok, to clarify I did like the book. How could I not? Its a Sookie Stackhouse book. Anything new about her life is a great thing. But It didn't have the usual fun twists as her other books. It was like she was in a depression the whole time There was no really "make you laugh" moments in this book. It's started with her in a funk, and ended even funkier. Plus although it opened new story lines, bringing new questions to light, there was no answers, no closure, only leaving you wonder, what happened. On the bright side I guess it could make a great intro to her next book. It's a "must read" being it's part of the series, just not a great part. As a devout Sookie Stackhouse lover, I'm going to hang in there and hope the next book gets better. They all can't be 5 stars I guess...... Right?

Excellent narration!

Johanna Parker is outstanding! She has great talent in bringing the characters to life.

Dead Reckoning was well written, however, a seriously dark book that was disapointing in that so many of the earlier Sookie books were laugh out loud at times and/or exceptionally intense. I love to read but want to enjoy books withhout such melodrama, which seemed to be the under current in this book.

Worth the wait

I really enjoyed this latest installment. This book is one of the big turning point for Sookie. She finds out more about her grandmother, where her ability comes from and her relationship with Eric. Of course there is something brewing among the fey left in the human world and the vampire politics are as murky, complicated and bloody as ever. Sookie does her best to swim with the sharks and finds where her limits are.

I also was pleasantly surprised by the second guest appearance of characters from Ms. Harris' other series. who are the main characters of the Shakespear series I've just read. Highly recommended for all fans of the series.

Enjoable

It's amazing that Charlaine can still be keeping up the good story line ideas. This book is obviously a prelude to the next one. There is a bit of a hint of how the series will finish too.

Great Series

Great book. It could have been longer though. I love this series but I hate the way HBO is changing everything in the show. At first they were sticking to the storyline of the books but now they have gone way off it. I can't wait for the next book.
