Publisher's summary

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his "child", Pam, are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot - which is much more complicated than she knows.

Another Great Sookie Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Dead Reckoning to be better than the print version?

Audio editions are great for car rides, as something to listen to while your working, its great when you can get your hands on a book and physically read. Although I love reading I get car sick if I tried to do it in the car, audio books let me t ake the story with me wherever I am going. I can be listening to a book while walking, shopping etc. Plus again I love the fact that the people in the stories are given such character.

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Johanna brings life to the story, I have read this book as well, I love the southern drawls and voices she gives each character, as she has such intimate knowledge of the characters she really brings the story to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Sookie broke her bond with Erik, I wanted to cry

Disappointing...

I remember fondly that the first few books of this series were entertaining mysteries that didn't disappoint. Not so this time around. An entire book about a Molotov cocktail?? Certainly this can't be the intrigue especially when it became so quickly apparent who was responsible. As many have said, this book does little else other than masquerade as a preamble to book #12. The ending was so abrupt and boring that I actually rewound it to listen again because I was convinced that couldn't have been how the book ended. I am a Sookie Stackhouse fan, but this book was the worst in the series for me hands-down. On a more positive note, the narration (as always) was excellent.

Not up to the same quality we've grown used to

When this book was finished, and the narrator said "The End" I was stunned. Nothing was concluded, and the story was never developed. I kept thinking that eventually it would get to the incredible drama and passion we've become accustomed to by Charlaine Harris, but it just never happened. I'll always be a faithful fan, and I've never read an extensive series by any author that didn't have one bummer book in the series, so this is not a tragedy, it happens. However, I wish she would've delved deeper, and actually concluded the situations. There are so many unanswered questions at the end of the book, and it just didn't have that special thing that makes you unable to put it down. That being said, I'll still be buying the next book when it is released because overall, this is one of my favorite series of all time. :)

Chick book

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The gals will like this book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dead Reckoning?

I couldn't finish the book.

Any additional comments?

I can't believe I listened to the books in the series up to now.

Too much talk, not enough action

I could careless about the color of clothing, hair, etc, talk, talk, talk. I love Sookie Stackhouse and can't wait for the next book, but this one was a very big disappointment. I hope the next book will be more exciting. Sorry Johanna

:-( Even lacking in the usual humour

Being a huge fan of Sookie, I immediately bought this long awaited book but now I regret having done so. Hating how the the series has been decimated by being made into a TV series, this half half story appears to have been written by those appalling writers! This feels like it was meant to be only the beginning of the entire book but Charlene was under pressure from her publisher to finish and there are several chapters missing and we have ended up with a very unsatisfying read that has left me (and from the other reviews I can see I am not the only one) feeling cheated. Not up to the high standard of roller coaster ride, peppered with her own unique brand of humour, that this writer normally delivers. Please take a year off Charlene, ignore the pressure from publisher, but please give us the old Sookie back!

Not a fan!

I loved the series until now! I loved her and Eric together! I don’t want to give away for others so that’s all I will say! I wish I didn’t buy the whole series before listening to this book.

Not the best...

I have to agree that this book was slow to develop, predictable, and simply fails to deliver. SO disappointed. I am a faithful Sookie fan and have loved this series (up until book 10, which was also a disappointment). The last two books have seemed half hearted at best. I do love the narrator, who gives such personality to all the characters, especially Sookie. I hate to say that it may be time to pull the plug on this series.

slow. somber. boring.

I've read all the books in this series and this one just wasn't that good. Yes it's very somber. The action feels like a retelling of previous books. Same with the romance.

The worst part, however, was the ending. It was so sudden that 3 minutes until the end of the book, I was concerned I must have not downloaded the entire audiobook and there must be another section. Nope... it just ended right there.

That said, if you're a fan of the books, I'd still read it. It's still good old Sookie and their are moments that are wonderful. I have to believe this book was just the preamble to a much "bigger" book both in length and content.

Bummer

I love Sookie - but I felt that this book was just sad and the door way to get rid of both Eric and Bill from her life. I have always felt (not that I'm happy about it) that Harris intends for Sookie to end up with Sam and that's what this book was all about starting. Everything with Alcied and Amelia was just wrong. These are two people Sookie used to be able to depend on and Harris has just made them stupid and weak. So sick of the whole Fairy storyline. Her cousin is a jerk and I don't trust the wimpy uncle. The stuff with the demon lawyer and her gran was so out of left field and not in a good way. The one bright spoot was the friendship between Pam and Soopkie.
