Publisher's summary

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his "child", Pam, are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot - which is much more complicated than she knows.

Disappointed

I am a big Sookie fan and have to say that this should have been a teaser to the next book rather than a whole book. While not a waste of my time, it didn't provide anything to push the series further. It's bad enough that HBO changed all of the characters and plot. This book lacked the depth the others had. Get it to understand more about the history of the characters rather than pushing the envelope of the series.

Say what?

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The ending, left too many questions unanswered/resolved so it didn't feel like a complete story as a result.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Incomplete

Any additional comments?

Sookie just seems like a really weak minded female and it gets annoying. How can one be so conflicted with a circumstance she was OK with for years? She acts like everything is a surprise when its in line with everything she's experienced before.

another great book

Not perhaps my favorite of the series, as it seemed to be almost rushed and lacking the romance and detail of some of the others. But all in all another great book to add to the series, with the trade mark humor and wit we have come to expect and love in Sookie. These books always leave me eager for the next one.

Another fun read

Guess I'm the odd duck here, cause I really liked this book. I love all of the Sookie books and after having to wait awhile to hear this one, it was like reconnecting with an old friend. Sookie is not a superhero, she's a human being and has faults like all the rest of us. She can be stupid, self centered, funny, judgemental, thoughtful, kind, devious, loving and a good friend. Its what I lke about her. She's not perfect. I liked the direction the book took and like the set up for the next one... leaves me wanting more! Johanna Parker is the female version of Jim Dale - she is awesome!

Yay! Finally Sookie is unpredictable again.

I love the Sookie books, but the True Blood series has way more twists and I was finding the books really, really predictable. Sookie was doing a lot of really stupid stuff in the last few... but this book is fresh, fun and intense. Yay! Finally one I could sink my teeth into again.

Winding down?

I felt a little disconnected from this book. I wasn't pulling for Sookie here the way I usually do in most other books in this series. It almost felp like a transitional piece between what happen before and what ms. Harris needs to have happen in order to end the series the way she wants to end it.

Good but forgettable..

What did you like best about Dead Reckoning? What did you like least?

It was amusing but even after a month of listening to it, I can't really recall what it actually was about.

Which character – as performed by Johanna Parker – was your favorite?

Sookie.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Nope.

Perhaps the most serious in the series to date

The books have been getting darker and much more serious as the series has progressed. Sookie isn't the flippant not-too-bright waitress she used to be. She'a got some mileage on her and they've been hard miles. The writing is getting better and better too. The early books were light, no particular depth ... but that has changed very much for the better. This is a good one, the best yet and I am most curious to see where she is going to take the story in future volumes. Fine narration except for the exaggerated southern accents.

The begining of the end

What did you like best about Dead Reckoning? What did you like least?

When Mr. Catalise tells Sookie about the special gift he gave her and his relationship with her grandfather Fintain and about the claviale door and what it could do for Sookie. My least favorite is when Eric tells Sookie about the Queen of Oklahoma and the blood bond is ended with Amelia's aid.

Would you be willing to try another book from Charlaine Harris? Why or why not?

I have already tried another series that Charlaine Harris wrote, but I like Sookie better.

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Depth of feeling and emotions. She also enhances the feel of every event that happens in Sookie's life.

Could you see Dead Reckoning being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, its called True Blood.

Any additional comments?

I found this book more serious then any other one in the series and knew something final was happening. To many character's lives were being laid to rest or finalized.
