Critic reviews

"There is zombie fiction and then there is crawl-out-of-the-grave-and-drag-you-to-hell zombie fiction. Day by Day Armageddon is hands down the best zombie book I have ever read. Dawn of the Dead meets 28 Days Later doesn't even come close to describing how fantastic this thriller is. It is so real, so terrifying, and so well written that I slept with not one, but two loaded Glocks under my pillow for weeks afterwards. J. L. Bourne is the new king of hardcore zombie action!" (Brad Thor, New York Times #1 best-selling author)

I’m just picking at this point…

The narrator says while in the pharmacy that he would just take anything that ended in”biotic.”

Zombie Verité

The 'good' of Bourne's books is found in the continuity of the experience. True to its title this is the blow by blow rendition of an adept soldier's survival in the face of armaggeddon. A good, (if disappointingly simple) man facing almost inescapable oblivion. A survivor's narrative where every mile endured is a minor miracle. Bourne's military experience and balanced, logistical view is the text's best quality. If you enjoy the genre and don't require great writing, this is as good as it gets.

well done.

There are some repeated feelings by character, but is well done none the less. The narrating was good, thanks too jay snyder. Hope the series continues.

Couldn't Ask for More

Any additional comments?

This is the best series of zombie/apocalypse out there, followed by World War Z, and The Morningstar Strain.

Astonished

I am not someone who finds zombie movies or books very interesting. I saw Night Of The Living Dead when it first came out and Shaun Of The Dead when it arrived in the US (I had to see what a zombie comedy was like), but that is pretty much it. If I want an apocalypse book I generally get something involving global thermonuclear war,or some kind of catastrophe (Larry Niven's Footfall) or some kind of unstoppable virus (like Stephen King's The Stand). So I have no idea how I ended up with this book. Probably the Audible sale.

So perhaps you can imagine my surprise when I found myself completely bound up in the fate of the main character. The book is extraordinarily well written and maintains constant suspense throughout. I found myself reluctant to put it down and constantly worried about the fate of the characters.

Towards the end I began to feel sorry that it was ending and then, when it just stopped, I could not understand why it ended as it did. Only then did I find that there was a sequel. Will I buy it? Probably so. I want to know what happens next, and that makes this a 5 star book for me.

Not the best book but hands down best with Zombies

I am a sci fi fan, but not really a horror fan. This one is right up my alley! Well told, unique, and fast paced. I am looking forward to more.

Moment-by-moment compelling work

I've read both novels in this series, and I enjoyed both immensely, despite some flaws in each. The second one really leaves you hanging, so I'm looking forward to the third.

The way Bourne tells the tale made me feel like I was there, experiencing it. I don't have a fraction of the weapons and survival knowledge Bourne obviously has, but that didn't spoil it for me at all. There are some holes in the plot, and he leaves some obvious questions unanswered, but these problems are easily overlooked.

If you like zombie OR apocalyptic novels, get this one.

Really scary stuff!

Yes, the book ends abruptly, but it's a journal... the journal of one of the last survivors on Earth after the living dead have taken over. It was so creepy that I was scared to get up by myself at night. I found that I couldn't listen right before bed or I had nightmares. It wasn't THE most creative zombie story ever written, but it scared me so bad that I have to say it was a great book! I was a little bummed when it ended, but I would have been even more disappointed if it had a nice bow around it... being written like a journal was a great twist on an old story!

Great human story

LOVED the book, loved to have a person read it to me again. Give D.B.D.A a chance and you will enjoy it. Its more then a zombie story. I live to care about the people I'm reading about and this book did that for me.
