Dead is a good book.Gross at times, but good.It is full of stories from an apocolyptic world.Andrew McFerrin is a really talented narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Meh... I'll try the second one I guess.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There are FAR too many character intros at the beginning. The author should have chosen less characters/locations to focus on. The beginning (1st 3rd of the book) was chaos. TW should have picked his favorite 3, then introduced others more gradually.

Would you be willing to try another book from TW Brown? Why or why not?

I'm giving the second one a try to see if it impresses me more. There's enough greatness here to allow potential if he (the author) subtracts the things that are wrong with the first book.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Andrew McFerrin?

Even the narrator had problems with the 1st 3rd or the book. He just sounded like some guy reading a book, but then actually fell into the role of "voice actor" after he could finally get a feel for the characters too.

Any additional comments?

It's decent and real; worth the listen. After FINALLY connecting with some of the characters, I find myself curious about what will happen to them next.

Great start for a zombie apocalypse!

Would you listen to DEAD: The Ugly Beginning again? Why?

Yes, I am sure there are things I missed the first time I read it.

What did you like best about this story?

How the author describe what it's like when a zombie apocalypse does happens.

Which character – as performed by Andrew McFerrin – was your favorite?

Andrew does a superb job with the narration the story and creating different characters. My favorite has to be Travis.

Any additional comments?

The only reason why I did not give this story a 5 star rating was because of the number of characters that was introduce it was hard to care for them. But I think if I did not read Dead: Snapshot: Portland, Oregon first I actually would have enjoyed it more. Dead Snapshot series are more enjoyable because you can identify some of the landmark that was being describe. Good start for a zombie series.

This audiobook was given to me to me at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review, thanks, Audiobook Boom!

A good zombie book

I would recommend to anyone looking for a more realistic story about what would happen in a zombie apocalypse.

Oh my....this is brutal

Any additional comments?

As a fellow author, I find it hard to write reviews for books. But, since I started out as an avid reader, I always see myself as a fan first.

I realized, months after listening to this book, that I never left a review. So, here it goes.

This book (and series) is NOT for the faint of heart. This is the zombie apocalypse AT ITs WORST! (or best, considering how you take it). There are no real heroes, just poor saps trying to survive the best they can. There are villains...horrible, ruthless villains. There are those trying to help others, but torn between their own safety and risking their lives.

The writing is excellent. Brown has the ability to show you the most gruesome scenes, and they never get old or over played. A real top-notch author.

Andrew's narration is good, however he did annoy me sometimes when he would draw out words.

I have continued with the series (though I have not finished it yet), and have listened to his spin-off series: Snapshot: Portland. He narrates that himself and I was amazed at how well he did. I highly recommend it.

Just started listening to the series for the second time!

I don’t remember if I left a review on any of the books the last time I listened to it but if so it is worth 5 more stars!! If you like the zombie genre than this series is a must!! I actually felt like I knew these characters and was truly sad when one was lost ! Each book gets better and I was sad when I listened to the last one so here I am starting again. A must read for zombie fans!!

EH...

I cant pinpoint exactly what it was that didn't grab my attention...I think the Zombie Fallout series by Mark Tufo ruined it for all other zombie series.

The Dead Rise In This Awesome Tale.

Todd Brown is the new Zombie genre king.
Author T.W. Brown delivers an amazing tale with book one of his Dead series. This book take you from the beginning of a zombie apocalypse through multiple story arcs and point of views. Todd Brown does an amazing job with his wide range of characters and their development. You will come across characters that you love and feel for and others that you will hate. The author does well diving into the human psyche of what would happen if the dead began to rise. Mr. McFerrin does an outstanding job bringing the written word to audio. His voice acting really serves well to draw the listener into Brown's story.
I highly recommend this book to listeners. Give it a shot!
