Publisher's summary

Exploding from the pages of Horror, Humor, and Heroes, Volume One - it’s the full length adventures of the one and only Mechani-Cal! So grab your battlesuit and prepare to get a little nasty.

"Being a supervillain means never having to say you’re sorry - unless it’s to the judge or the parole board. Even then, you don’t really have to. It’s not like it’s going to change the outcome or anything." Those are the words of Calvin Matthew Stringel, better known as Mechani-Cal. He’s a down-on-his-luck armored villain. Follow his exploits as he gets swept up in a world domination scheme gone wrong and ends up working for these weak willed, mercy loving heroes. Immerse yourself in epic battles and see what it’s like to be an outsider looking in at a world that few have ever experienced. Climb into Cal’s battlesuit and join him on his journey. Will he avoid selling out his principles for a paycheck and a pardon? Can he resist the camaraderie of being on a super team? Does he fall prey to the ample charms of the beautiful Olympian Aphrodite? How will he survive the jealous schemes of Ultraweapon, who wears armor so powerful it makes Cal’s look like a museum piece?

See the world of “righteous do-gooders” through the eyes of someone who doesn’t particularly care for them. Revel in his sarcasm and hang on for one wild ride! Just remember: losing an argument with a group of rioters isn’t a good excuse to start lobbing tear gas indiscriminately at them. You’ve only got so many rounds and it’s going to be a long day, so make sure you get as many as possible with each one.

A good read

I read this book a dozen times and listen to it 8 times it kind of never gets old. it is both an action-adventure and an unlikely Romance. it has become my favorite superhero genre book. the writer and the editor both get this genre and I look forward too many more.

Fun but drops at the end

Going into the epilogue of this book I was going to rate it 5 stars as both the story and Jeffery Kafer are brilliant. Unfortunately Talmadge Ragan takes over for the epilogue and she sounds so disinterested that she makes some very big fight scenes sound boring. I still recommend it but I just can’t give it 5 stars.

Some light fun, and some Interesting heroes...

...but there are much better books in this Genre to spend your time and money on...Ex-Heroes series by Pete Cline, Grimnoir Chronicles by Larry Correia and anything by A. Lee Martinez.

I mostly enjoyed the self deprecating humor of the first person narrator-The main male character here is likeable but his observations veer too far/too often toward adolescent for his life experience...and the female characters are even less well developed and sound even more like they are being described by a stereotypical just barely 20 something, very intelligent but socially immature male...that might work when he is the narrator...but not at all when the point of view changes to her narration later in the book.

Audio book narration for the first part of the story was good, he created the main character well and voices for others were easily identified and enhanced the story. The female narrator's performance was much weaker BUT I readily admit that for some reason I am much harder on female narrator's on audio books....and to be fair, this part of the story was significantly weaker material for her to work with...I would have preferred NO change in narrator I think.

Confessions is fun

Different and worthwhile for fans of anything hero related. Love that the underdog has his day.

A "blast" to read

I started this book very skeptical that I would enjoy it. I was excited about the concept, but doubted it was going to be executed correctly. I openly admit I was wrong. This book delivered, and I was laughing and intrigued within minutes of starting my audiobook.

I enjoyed the themes explored in this book. It exposed the superhuman for who they were... human. I found this text to be somewhat reminiscent of Watchmen. It was not as dark as the aforementioned, however it did showcase the world of Heroes and Villains, as more than just black and white.

This needs to be a whole series

This was fantastic! Witty, super snarky, and imaginative. Found myself busting out into laughter.

I would gobble up an entire series if one existed. In fact, I just noticed there's an "Origin of a D-List Supervillain" which I'll be picking up next!

Better than I was expecting

I really wan't expecting much for this book, I picked it up on a sale because the cover and title caught my interest. I enjoyed this book it was a refreshing modern sci fi super hero / villain book with modern day references in it. This is a series which for some reason audible isn't acknowledging this is book 1 which can actually be book 2, after I read book 2 I went to book one then three. Book 2 Origins of a D-List Supervillain is a prequel and ends right where book 1 starts. Book 3 is Secrets of a D-List Supervillain. I ended up grabbing all 3 of them and am currently waiting for book 4 to be released.

Sometimes I like a book that isn't too serious.

Not bad at all, I like superhero books and movies especially comic books, and this feels like a comic made into a book. I would recommend this book to any comic fan, or a person looking for a story that doesn't take itself too seriously. My only problem was the female narrator at the end she was just terrible, thankfully it was maybe 30 minutes at the end.

An overall enjoyable experience

the only note I have is it seems odd that you had a Male and female voice actors but didn't have them voice the Male and female rolls only changing for perspective shifts.
