Publisher's summary

America is falling, ready to join the Roman Empire as a distant memory in the annals of history. The year is 2027. Tired and desperate, the American people are deep in the middle of The Second Great Depression. The Florida coastline is in ruins from the most powerful hurricane on record; a second just like it is bearing down on the state of Texas. For the first time in history, the Middle East has united as one and amassed the most formidable army the world has seen since the Third Reich. A hidden army of terrorists is on American soil.

This is the story of three men: Howard Beck, the world's richest man, also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Richard Dupree, ex-Navy SEAL turned escaped convict. Maxwell Harris, a crippled, burned out Chief of Police of a small Texas town. At first they must fight for their own survival against impossible odds. Finally, the three men must band together to save their beloved country from collapse.

Waited for stories to merge, waited, waited...

The sheriff, prisoner, billionaire and President; four stories told and after 7 hours of waiting, still four separate stories being told. I am an audible addict, and this book is the worst. The only reason I made it seven hours is because the narrator was very good. If you like reading four books at once then this is the book for you.

interesting premise, terrible execution

this book was overtly politically slanted and hard to get through. recommended wmfor right wingers as a sweet wet dream. when it comes to politics in literature I like to with writers like Harry Turtledove who doesn't dream a political agenda down anyone's throat.

Not worth your time

I tried. Really. I think I only got through this book because I hate leaving books I have started in the unread pile. It just seemed like a disjointed mess that never really came together. The military and country level leadership pieces seemed even worse. The only reason that I finished was that I don't like leaving book unfinished.

I literally cringed when the reader tried to simulate voices coming from speakers.
