Publisher's summary

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, "normal" is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night....Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans - an alpha-strain werewolf - and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

Another Andrew’s Series to Devour

Love the characters and this new world of magic. Each of the main characters is unique and I would love to follow the adventures of any of them.

Excellent as only the "Andrews" duo can do

The Ilona Andrews duo did it again. This is a wonderful book. They are so good at taking a character and building it so that you understand and can relate. It doesn't tax your imagination because their descriptions are so vivid. The relationship between Dina and Sean is off to a good start. You can picture the melding of their personalities. I really enjoyed the characters of various supernatural kind and their skills. Love these books and look forward to reading ALL of them. Haven't found an "Andrews" book that I don't like.

the Story is good, but narration is slightly off

it was a good story, but narrator's voice give the impression of an older woman and the main character is in her early 20s. this threw things off for me.

Enjoyed the story but the narrator is all wrong

Liked the story (I had already read on Kindle and thought it would be good to listen to while my hands are occupied). Didn't care for the narrator at all - wrong too-heavy accent, wrong age in this 1st person book where the heroine is mid-twenties. Had hoped to buy the rest of the set, but not with this narrator.

I’m a fan!

I’m a fan of both the authors and the narrator so what’s not to enjoy in this book? I enjoy the characters themselves but Renee Raudman adds life and emphasizes those quirks in personality that bring humor and humanity to good characters.

I’ve had it for 5 months and listened to the book twice.

A Delightful Novel, new takes on fantasty tropes

I had this book on my list after searching for fantasy novels by female authors. I think it was recommended in some reddit thread.
I found the reveal and presentation of this fantasy world really engaging. The protagonist felt powerful and real, with realistic limits within the world. The established settings feel alive and thriving with activity just offscreen.
The narrator took me by surprise, as initially the gentle southern accent didn't seem to work, but it grew on me and I'm ultimately glad that's the direction the audiobook took. It really does support the sarcastic nature of the protagonist.
Also the shipper/fanfic enthusiast in me is absolutely delighted by the character interactions. In fact I may go see if anyone has had a chance to continue the story, as it's obvious there is still a lot to tell. (The ending was satisfying though- please don't read that as an insult.)
I will be looking into other works by this author.

Awesome Story, Characters and the Perfect Voice

I have loved this story in its written form and in Audible format. Quirky, well developed characters, an innovative and unique setting and a voice (Renee Raudman's) that defines the voices in my head even when reading these stories made for a delightful experience.

It surprised me

I was pleasantly surprised and so glad I took a chance on something new. New to both the narrator and the author. Renee Raudman made the story come alive and I was able to suspend my disbelief to enjoy the story.
