"The Mortal Instruments just keeps getting better."
Where does City of Fallen Angels rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

City of Fallen Angels is the best listen in the Mortal Instruments series so far.

What was one of the most memorable moments of City of Fallen Angels?

Simon coming to terms with his vampirism.

Which character – as performed by Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn – was your favorite?

Simon was my favourite character in this book, as he struggles to come to terms with his condition and the Mark of Cain.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would not attempt to make this into a film, considering how bad City of Bones was when made into a movie.

    "Awesome story starter, great cliffhanger"
What about Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performance did you like?

I found Ed a great contrast to Molly, though I wish they would settle on one kind of narrator. In book 5 we only get Molly and the previous 3 have all been read by different people. The discontinuity does the story a disservice. I particularly like these 2.

    Any additional comments?

What a great way to kick off a new trilogy (/ continuation from the first trilogy) and all we took for granted goes out the window! Quick paced, witty, and dark, it is a delight from beginning to end and its a quick roll from 4 to 5 and then join in the anticipation for book 6!

"Like Nails On A Chalk Board"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes and no. I love this series, I really do. However, I feel that City of Glass would've been a fine way to finish the series if the ending had been more final. The loose threads at the end of City of Glass felt a little forced. But all that aside, I was glad to have the opportunity to further the Mortal Instruments journey. Though the connection really wasn't there for me. I'll finish the series because I feel like I should, not necessarily because I want to. I definitely don't feel the enthralling engrossment I felt with the first three books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Simon. As the story is predominantly about him I guess that it's only natural to feel the connection with his character grow this time round.
At the risk of sounding cliche', his character really comes into his own in this book, meaning he is no longer a sub-character just playing the role of Clary's faithful sidekick, following her through her life and her story. Simon has developed his own story, his own life outside of Clary. I kind of feel that he was owed this and I was glad that this is the route Clare took with his character. We'd seen this change in his character start to unfold in City of Glass so I found the follow through of this new Simon in City of Fallen Angels very satisfying and thoroughly enjoyable. Plus, he's a great comic relief amongst all of the Clary/Jace relationship angst. Really. Enough.
Kyle was a nice addition to the cast as well.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Fail.
I could listen to Ed Westwick for hours. What a voice! And I thought he did a great job. And I liked the novelty of switching up narrators. Though, I would have been just as content if Natalie Moore had remained the narrator.
Molly C. Quinn though, different story altogether. I got to the point where I was actually tempted to skip the parts she narrated. The heading says it all, like nails on a black board. I'm probably nit-picking because I've been spoilt with audiobooks read by a variety of truly brilliant narrators, but her poorly inflected and almost bored delivery was painful for me. The stiff, over-pronounced narrative was distraction and disappointing. And honestly, the "soft-voice" she adopted when completing a sentence or, for example, reading a conversation between Clary and Jace made my eye twitch. Again, I'm probably being pedantic, but it really, REALLY annoyed me and significantly lessened my enjoyment of this audiobook and did not do justice to the story.

Do you think City of Fallen Angels needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

We've come this far! Let's finish the series with a bang! It deserves it.
Thus far, the Mortal Instruments series has delivered a wonderful and innovative world to escape to that is thoroughly entertaining. Sure, you can't throw a stone in a book store these days without hitting a supernatural/para-romance young adult novel, but the Mortal Instruments offers enough refreshing contrast to other series within it's genre to make it a stand out, must read story. No easy feat in a flooded market and a true credit to Cassandra Clare.
I'm looking forward to the final chapter of this enchanting story as, I'm sure, are the many other readers who have invested in the world of Shadowhunters, Downworlders and Demons.

What would have made City of Fallen Angels better?

A Narrator that could be heard his voice was one flats nothing. I could not follow the story because his voice never changed between character infact his tone never changed I had no idea which character was talking I turned the story off after 9 mins Please bring back Ari Graynor or Natalie Moore I will never by another book read by Ed Westwick.

What was most disappointing about Cassandra Clare’s story?

I have listen to the whole series up to this book and was forced to turn it off.

Would you be willing to try another one of Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performances?

NEVER I could do better than Westwick standing on my head drinking a beer

What character would you cut from City of Fallen Angels?

    love them all

What did you love best about City of Fallen Angels?

C.C keeps the teen angst coming and left us with a gripping cliffhanger

Who was your favorite character and why?

Clary, the bumbling yet powerful newbie

Have you listened to any of Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It was a little off putting to swap to a two person read after being accustomed to the previous solo readings, not that Ed and Molly don't give a winning reading i have to admit i preferred the other works.

    Any additional comments?

Found it slightly odd at the shifting prospectives between clary and simon

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Book was OK I just disliked the ending. Anyone who had read the series would be disappointed.

What was most disappointing about Cassandra Clare’s story?

I have read many others previous books in this series, loved them all. this one the ending was horrible left too many unanswered questions. Felt confused. This book seemed unnecessary and the series could have finished with the third book

What about Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performance did you like?

These guys did OK, but it is annoying when the narrators are changed during a series

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

"The next story in the Mortal Instruments"
What did you love best about City of Fallen Angels?

The development of the present day Shadowhunters universe seems to be moving toward a juxtaposition with The Infernal Instruments books. Cassandra Clare is brilliant.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

That last scene with Jace had me on tenterhooks until the City of Lost Souls came out. I can't wait for it to come out in Audiobook.

    Any additional comments?

Excellent series, I recommend it to everyone who like a little action with their romance in a supernatural 'verse.

    "Enjoy"

I have read and listened to all of Cassandra Clare's books and though I liked Natalie Moore's readings I have to say that I have enjoyed this one the most mainly due to Ed Westwick. He adds a different dynamic to the story and his interpretation of Simon is wonderful. I think I also like Molly Quinn more than I liked Natalie's Moore or maybe she it was just her in tandom with Ed that makes this audiobook so easy to listen too and hard to press pause buttom.

    "Wonderful"

I love The Mortal Instruments and for the most part because of the complex relationships between the main characters. This is the 4th book in the saga and kind of starts of the second part of the story and maybe I wondered if it would captivate me as much as the first 3 books did.

Well I can say it does and I thoroughly enjoyed it, as with the other books I love Cassie's storyline and hope with all my heart if and when the film does come out it will do it justice, though as with most films of the book, they don't.

If you haven't read any of the Mortal Instruments get hold of City of Bones now, you won't regret it. It has it all, Demons and Angels, Vampires and Werewolves, Love and Romance. If you have read the first 3 books, City of Fallen Angels will leave you crying out for the as yet incomplete 5th book, City of Lost Souls.

Get into the Mortal Instruments now!

    "Best of the series"
Would you listen to City of Fallen Angels again? Why?

The story line continued with what happens in the love lives of all the characters. The story was so exciting. I felt like I was watching a film A great end to the series

What other book might you compare City of Fallen Angels to, and why?

I have not read a series this exciting, where I felt I had to read the next book.

What does Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Did not like the narration at all. I had got used to the narrator of the previous 3 books. Why did you change? And why 2. Both were poor readers. I nearly bought the book to read myself.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I could not leave it down. The pace of the story increased in the last few chapters. Great read

    Any additional comments?

As I listened to the previous 3 books I knew the characters and felt comfortable with the story line. This book was so poorly read, I only stuck with it so I could discover the ending. These books were well written. I was completely drawn into the world of Shadowhunters, Downworlders and Demons. A great ending!

I bought City of Fallen Angels last night and absolutely love it. It's the first book from the series I've ever read/heard but it's fairly easy to get caught up with (through wikipedia) I love that Ed Westwick co narrates this and his accent and voice is seriously perfect for the role of Simon. If your a fan of Gossip Girl and into Fantasy novels then this book will be perfect for you. Highly reccommend it. The voices really help you get into the book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Uncertain. I loved the first three books, but this one didn't engage me. Confusing.

What did you like best about this story?

The way that SImon grows as a character

What three words best describe Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s voice?

Ed Westwick - engaging, interesting, accents

Molly C Quinn - dreadful, whiney, childlike.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    What Simon did next.

    Any additional comments?

I really, really liked Ed Westwick's narration. You can truly believe that there are several different people talking.

Equally, I loathed Molly C Quinn's narration. It grated on me every time she spoke. Forgive me, but I can only hear "Castle's little girl" in her voice. Poor acting all round. Pretty much just one voice.

This book would have been so much better had it been read by the narrators of book 1 or 2 & 3.

Would you be willing to try another one of Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performances?

I think I will avoid these two in the future!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I'm sad that i wasn't able to finish this book, I really just couldn't stand to listen any more, that had nothing to do with the story and as mentioned, I loved books 1 - 3. Sadly, I shall not be reading the other books in this series as they are read by the same narrators.

"Could listen to Ed Westwick all day!"
What did you like most about City of Fallen Angels?

As the follow on in the series it was probably one of the ones I have enjoyed listening to the most. A fair bit happens, and we learn more about some of the 'lesser' characters like the werewolves, and Simon (one of my faves!) is in it a lot.

What was one of the most memorable moments of City of Fallen Angels?

Ooh the ending! Don't worry no spoilers here, but ouch! I'm off to seek out the follow on book..!

What about Ed Westwick and Molly C. Quinn ’s performance did you like?

Mmmmm. Ed Westwick narrating a book is one of the best things in life. I could listen to him all day. To be honest he could read the dictionary and I'd probably be happy! Seriously though, apart from the lovely voice, he made the characters stand out (he narrated from Simon's perspective for the most part) and he gave a depth of character and accent to Simon, Jordan etc that made them come alive a little more for me.
On the other hand, I could have done without Molly C Quinn entirely. For most of the book she just annoyed me with her breathy, supposedly ethereal, boring voice. She made no attempt to liven up any of the characters voices or differentiate between them at all. Had she narrated the entire novel I would have been hard pushed to finish it despite the good story line! But try to get past that (I did eventually) as it is a great book and worth the slight annoyance...

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I liked how Clary is starting to stand on her own two feet a bit more in this book, and learning the ways of a Shadow Hunter. She grew on me, as did Isabelle, as their friendship grows throughout the story.

    "great continuation - rubbish narration"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend the book BUT with the caveat that the readers are appalling

What other book might you compare City of Fallen Angels to, and why?

it's the 4th book of the series

How did the narrator detract from the book?

There are 2 narrators one male and one female.

The female is almost over childlike in her narration, and the male is that laid back I'm surprised he managed to keep awake.

The change from one to the other and back over and over again is a shock to the system and means that I have to get used to the reader again, and again, and again ... and this disrupted the story to an annoying degree.

There was no logic to the changes in reader it seemed to be random - it was not at chapter ends or anything that might have indicated the need for a swap.

To be honest I could have taken to the male as his voice was quite soothing, but the change was jarring and disrupted my listening enjoyment.

Could you see City of Fallen Angels being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

I am hoping that CoFA will be made into a film - the entire series was purchased from Ms Clare including the unreleased/unwritten ones.

I hope that the keep the actors but get rid of the screen writer and director who messed up the story line of the first 2/3 books.

    Any additional comments?

If you do a narration of a series like this, and you are on the fourth book in the series, why suddenly change the narration format or the narrator at all?

What disappointed you about City of Fallen Angels?

The Narrators. Dear God, they both sounded so so depressing, it's just someone reading it really. It was hard to distinguish their voices from different characters. Natalie Moore should have remained as the narrator. That's what I don't like about bringing famous and yet inexperienced actors to narrate a so well loved book. They can't pull it off. I just couldn't bare to listen to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of City of Fallen Angels?

Read the book if you can, it is not the best in the series but I love the fighting scenes.

How could the performance have been better?

    A professional narrator.

    "Awful."

Love love love Cassandra Clare's 1st three mortal instruments as well as the infernal devices. This book, however was very low on plot and was more of a Clary / Jace vehicle than an actual story. The narration was also not very good and did not add anything. Read it in paperback so you can skip the irrelevant boring parts.

Don't let this review put you off the first three in the series, though.
