Publisher's summary

Mother, wife, private investigator... vampire.

Seven years ago, federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happened, an attack that changed her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now, with Christmas just around the corner, Samantha Moon finds herself taking on a very strange case. A mysterious family treasure has been stolen, something priceless that's been passed down through the generations, something buried in secrets. Samantha's reward is simple: she gets half of whatever it is... if she can find it first.

And just as the holidays threaten to consume her, Samantha is approached by a very mysterious man, someone who knows all her secrets, a man who might not be a man at all. This Christmas, Samantha Moon's world is about to be rocked.

Perfect Short Story!

This was a perfect short story, and added substance to the series.

Sam's newest client asks for her assistance with a family heirloom safe which was stolen and has never been opened. She agrees to help find the treasure but asks to split the contents once it has been found. However, once the treasure has been found, Samantha is unable to take piece of the family heirloom but accepts another treasure instead. Can't wait to see what this treasure will do for Samantha in future stories.

Love this series just gets better

Where does Christmas Moon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

First Dina Perlman is wonderful as narrator, I hope they don't change. Even though the book was short if you've been following the series it is an important link to the next book in the series. Samantha Moon is getting to be a very powerful vampire, and you will see in book 5 just how that manifests. Start with book one, each book gets better. I can't wait for book 6.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Samantha and Det. Sherbet really work well together

Have you listened to any of Dina Pearlman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dina Pearlman is wonderful in all her narrations and I especially enjoy her in this series

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Not your every day Soccer Mom"

Any additional comments?

I hope that Dina Pearlman will continue to narrate this series, she brings so much personality to each character.

Here's where the series turns

I like the vampire soccer mom mystery procedural parts of the series and wish the author stuck to an engaging detective tale in each book. Instead, here's where the series starts to go off on weird magical tangents. This novella introduces guardian angels and kicks off subsequent books that rely increasingly on ghosts, cosmic forces, and Mary Sue vampiric traits or artifacts. This novella also doubles down on relationship drama (triples it, actually, with three men in the mix). It was an okay sale purchase, and it provides more context going into the next book. However, after listening to the next book, and seeing it embrace the mumbo jumbo, I think I'm done with the series.

Not a Holiday Story

STORY - As you might suspect, Christmas Moon is not a cute holiday story. (I listened to it in June). It does take place at Christmastime so you could stretch to say it's a holiday listen, but it's definitely not warm and fuzzy. It is, instead, a short, easy-listening vampire whodunnit. I have not gone through this series consecutively from the beginning and don't know the details of the original attack which "turned" Samantha, but this book seems to cast a new light onto what actually might have happened. The plot line is not complicated, but it was enjoyable and held my interest. It comes to a complete conclusion, so I would consider it a standalone book.

NARRATOR - I wish Ms. Pearlman would narrate a lot more books in the supernatural genre. Her voice is relatively low and somewhat sultry, and she reads a bit slower than many female narrators. The result is the book had a little more of a mysterious feel to it. In my opinion, some readers are just too "peppy" for the type of book they're reading.

OVERALL - Short, easy vampre mystery, but don't expect a complicated plot.

Too short

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you love the series, you will like this but be disappointed with the length. It is too short and there doesn't seem to be anything in it that will be missed if you don't buy it.

Not a christmas story

This was definitely not Christmas themed. It was a cute short story and I'm curious to see this plot line fleshed out more in the next book, but based on title I was expecting more christmas.

Huh ?

Ok, I’m not a huge vampire genre fan, but this series has been pretty entertaining and to be honest I found it cause the first one was free and the rest have only been $2. But this little episode “4.5”, was just a waste of time. I’m hoping the fact it had a .5 added to it means that the next installment will go back to the regular style and pace of the previous books. This was just a flop. There was the introduction of a new character and I’m guessing that’s the whole reason this book even exists. But I think that could’ve been covered in under two chapters in the regular series. So now I’m on to book 5 and hoping it’s not a waste of $2 like this one was.

Nothing added

I learned my lesson in other series to buy the middle books. This one was a waste of money. There was no conclusion just a mediocre side story, and an attempt to collect more money I'm sure. Although I plan on listening to the series through conclusion it is my hope that they get better.

There are points made that contradict each other. Like in an earlier book she said Danny was sole owner of a strip club. In this book she says he is partial owner. There have been several examples of this through the writing.

**Contains Spoilers**

Moon Dance aka Samantha is a Vampire. In this book she finds her Watcher. This short installment really helped progress the story and now we find out she was intentionally turned. Her watcher is who set the attack in motion.
J.R. Rain has a way if connecting the fantasy part of life to reality. Amazing author and amazing story line. Cannot wait until I start book 5. And we find out more about her Watcher.
Merry Christmas as I ironically read thia during the Christmas/ New Year Holiday!
