Publisher's summary

The sand-blasted world of Arrakis has become green, watered, and fertile. Old Paul Atreides, who led the desert Fremen to political and religious domination of the galaxy, is gone. But for the children of Dune, the very blossoming of their land contains the seeds of its own destruction. The altered climate is destroying the giant sandworms, and this in turn is disastrous for the planet's economy. Leto and Ghanima, Paul Atreides's twin children and his heirs, can see possible solutions - but fanatics begin to challenge the rule of the all-powerful Atreides empire, and more than economic disaster threatens.

The new Dune movie is based on the classic sci fi novel, the first book in an extensive series launched by author Frank Herbert and kept going by writers who took up the helm after his death. The trailer for the upcoming film was released last fall, and since then, speculation and excitement have been swirling around the movie. At three minutes long, the trailer itself is a beautiful masterpiece, and it teases many of the important characters and aspects from the story. This post will give you a basic understanding of the book, its history, and everything you need to know about Dune to get you ready for the movie!

Good

this book absolutely advances the story and more fully develops the characters. the performances excellent and the storyline is complex and intriguing. still it just doesn't seem to be quite up to the level of book one.

Story slightly worse than 1&2

I enjoyed this story very much but I believe the first two were just far superior in the plot and creativeness. Excellent performance though.

great continuation of an epic

I have grown to love the world created in the pages of this book series the more that I learn. I find myself awaiting little bits of information about that reality the author expertly scatters like breadcrumbs for you to gather to slowly (over several books) assemble the trail, but this trail (or story) doesn't lead home but further into the complicated future of humanity.

The Stakes continue to be raised

I enjoy how each book builds on the previous one. Frank Herbert orchestrates this world’s complex characters so well!

I was suprised.

I was surprised to find this book to fit so well with the previous two. Even though you are following a new main character, I found the transition was natural and the story flowed very well.
