Publisher's summary

With Wizard's First Rule and seven subsequent masterpieces, Terry Goodkind has thrilled readers worldwide with the unique sweep of his storytelling. Now, in Chainfire, Goodkind returns with a novel of Richard and Kahlan, the beginning of a sequence of three novels that will bring their epic story to its culmination.

After being gravely injured in battle, Richard awakes to discover Kahlan missing. To his disbelief, no one remembers the woman he is frantically trying to find. Worse, no one believes that she really exists, or that he was ever married. Alone as never before, he must find the woman he loves more than life itself....if she is even still alive. If she was ever even real.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Chainfire Trilogy and the Sword of Truth series.

Critic reviews

"Bond's somewhat understated style and relaxed, steady pace keep the story moving and help listeners sustain interest from start to finish. The characters' secrets and political maneuverings are in good hands with Bond." ( AudioFile)

Jim Bond ruins another good book.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator, I would change the narrator for sure. Jim Bond's ability to ruin a decent book with his irritating robotic voice never ceases to amaze me.

How could the performance have been better?

Sam Tsoutsouvas doing the narrating would have made it better.

Did Chainfire inspire you to do anything?

Chainfire like all of the other books narrated by Jim Bond inspire me to find a Speak-and-Spell and destroy it with a sledge hammer. Very easy to believe the voice coming from that is actually Jim Bond.

Any additional comments?

Please Audible, I'm begging here, as a fan of audio books (many different genres) and a fan of Goodkind, please re-do the books narrated by Jim Bond, the man has no business narrating any books, but especially this series! I love the series, have read them all and was so looking forward to hearing them read, but it is more a torture, having to struggle through listening to Bond, than anything resembling a relaxing time listening to a beloved series.

Not your typical damsel in distress story.

I loved Chainfire! The story is definitely a unique one. It has the epic elements of a damsel in distress story, but with original, and really good, twists.

Good But

great book but there is a repetitive argument that gets repeated countless times in the book. it will drive you crazy. but the last few chapters are cliff hangers . finally got to the meat of the story. you appreciate the last few chapters more bc of how you can relate to the main character throughout the book.

Suspense-station!

very suspenseful book, and I loved learning about the 9th rule. the narrator did an excellent job and provided a lot of diversity in voices that helped the story immensely.

thank the good spirits.

thankfully this is the last book read by this atrocious reader.

it would be nice if someone would redo the books read by this boring individual.

the story is good, but the reading is possibly the worst by any human.

Slow to develop

The story took a long time to develop and the reference to the title was therefore very later in the book.

Walk down memory lane

I read this book when I was maybe 20. Since discovering Audible I can now listen to the speaker bring to life the pages that I had forgotten. I picture in my mind a sort of movie and I relive the moments like never before. I'm now 53 and feel like I was returned to my younger self. I can't wait to start the next book. Thank you Audible and those who have taken the time to make this happen.
