Publisher's summary

For the first time - in one Audible-exclusive collection - it's 13 stories of Jane Yellowrock, the shape-shifting skinwalker and vampire hunter for hire whose business card reads, "Have Stakes - Will Travel". Jane carries inside her the soul of her Beast, the mountain lion's soul which merged with hers when she accidently performed black magic as a child. Now, she and her Beast stalk the dark streets of New Orleans, bringing rogue vampires true death.

In Cat o' Nine Tales, you'll discover how Jane turned into a big cat for the first time; how she and Molly became friends; how Rick LaFleur got his tattoos. You'll go along on some of Jane's early vamp hunts. You'll even hear two short tales through Bruiser's eyes.

Once you experience these stories set in the fantastic world of this New York Times best-selling series, you'll surely agree with Kim Harrison that Jane Yellowrock is "smart, sexy and ruthless".

The stories included in Cat o' Nine Tales are:

"WeSa and the Lumber King"
"The Early Years"
"Cat Tats"
"Kits"
"Haints"
"Signatures of the Dead"
"First Sight"
"Blood, Fangs and Going Furry"
"Dance Master"
"Cajun With Fangs"
"Golden Delicious"
"Beneath a Bloody Moon"
"Black Water"

Critic reviews

"Khristine Hvam is an outstanding narrator.... Hvam brings warmth and realism to Hunter's unusual characters and adds depth to the ambiance of the New Orleans settings. Her performance is splendid as she carefully creates a multitude of male and female characters, human and otherwise. The entire package flies by quickly, and listeners will want more." ( AudioFile)

These short stories fill in many blanks

Some of these short stories include stuff from full length books, but they also add in a lot of information not included elsewhere. Well worth the purchase. I've listened to it a couple of times already.

Let's talk about how to rate a book!

1 Star is awful (and to be diss'ed and shunned and spread as thus through out the Audible Universe!): Couldn't be PAID Enough to finish book.
2 Stars is poor (and not worth the credit or the listen): Finished book ONLY because it was Free and Won't buy the next book.
3 Stars is OK (the usual listen I encounter on Audible): Meh, it's ok; may or may not have got the next book just meh.
4 Stars is good (given only to interesting and well-written books): Good book, bought next book, and enjoyed series.
5 Stars is great (I rarely give this rating): This is your crack! You are collecting the Author's Complete Work's & listen to them again & again & again & again... Examples are Asimov, Crichton, Heinlein, Tolkien, etc.

Sadness!

I mourn that I am at the end of all the currently written Jane Yellowrock books. I feel like a piece of me has grown silent. Empty.

As with all her other books, Faith Hunter does not disappoint in her gatherings of the JY short stories. Here you will get a better understanding and more background on all your favorite characters, from Jane to Molly to my favorite, Bruiser. It will fill in some of the gaps that you may have found yourself wondering about.

As a stand-alone, a reader who isn't familiar with this series, you'll still enjoy this one, but you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't start at the beginning.

Paw. Paw. Paw.

Don't skip this book, a must read!

This book is comprised of Short Stories from the world of the Jane Yellowrock series. These stories are written from the perspective of the characters telling the story, which gives us insight into their characters that you just can't get from Jane's point of view.

There are 11 stories, which have been published previously in various places and 2 new novellas. Not being a fan of the Anthology books that are published with works of various authors, I had missed most of these stories.

I am SO glad that I purchased this book. The stories are fun, adventurous, exciting and leave you feeling that you know all the people in the series a little better, and have a better understanding of who they are, and why they act the way they do.

I am a Jane fan!

Great short stories. I enjoyed all but the first because it was entirely from the point of beast. Beast talk (I/we/us) is a little annoying, however the rest were fabulous!

Loved every minute of it!

I loved every second of this book. I am a huge fan of the author and the narrator. This was a compilation of short stories and it gives different perspectives you would otherwise not get with a regular Yellowrock book. I highly recommend it for all fans of Jane.
