A good captain protects his crew. Who protects the captain?
A shuffling of cabins puts Ishmael Horatio Wang in command of the worst ship in the fleet. He learns that being captain doesn't make you infallible and that life in the captain's cabin is filled with new kinds of challenges as he tries to keep the ship moving, the crew out of trouble, and turn a profit to earn his Captain's Share.
In a ship where the officers outnumber the crew, can he keep everybody happy? Welcome to the SC Agamemnon.

Now in his 30s Ishmael has to confront problems in his marriage and other problems not related to sailing a solar clipper. Overall, older Ishmael is a slightly more interesting and convincingly matured character, but the story is therefore slightly more character development and slightly less swashbuckling. I recommend the series, but would strongly suggest reading the books in order.
Ish got married? Oh, my!
Captain's share shows young Ishmael cleaning up another disaster ship. Meanwhile, however, he has problems at home -- a wife who doesn't really like being married to a spacer. We see a man having to make choices between his obligations as a married man and his obligations as a ship's captain -- to his crew and to the company that expects him to make money.
My favorite scene is with the lawyer and the shoe. You'll see why if you read the book. Although the shoes are foreshadowed with the shirt (no, I'll not tell you more), that scene is both funny and touching at the same time.
Yes. It is really hard to put these aside.
Captain's Share shows Ishmael successfully running a ship as captain. Again, he has a dysfunctional crew that he has to reshape into a smooth operation. Interestingly, we discover that some of the bad actors from the Tinker had a hand in creating the chaos aboard the Agamemnon. As always, Ishmael steadily solves problems using common sense, humor, and understanding of human nature.
continued the excellent writing of the previous books. highly recommended to Audio Book listeners. Great works.
This series is so great. I have read and listened to many, many times. So glad it is all on audible now.
My brothers and I have enjoyed all 5 books in series
one of the best
Love all 5 of them i hope you continue the books
Mr. Lowell's Coast Guard and Maritme experience really make the stories come to life. It may be that as a fellow Maine born former Coastie myself there is a unique appeal to me, but, others also seem enamored of his stories as well. I can't wait for the next book in 11 days!
This series is a favorite of mine. The story just rolls effortlessly off the narrators tounge, and has alife of its own......great author it almost seems as if he lived it himself........more will be greatly appreciated.....
I love a good story and excellent plot. Put them in a magical place or far off world; even better. Books are the gateway to another world
excellent story well told . not a high adventure but a galavanting romp through the stars.
"Maturity at its best,"
I got to admit, I was excited to get this delivered. I have so far really enjoyed this series. It's unique and has a real character driven plot.
I just wasn't so sure on this one. I mean Ismael had has troubles as usual, he's now made Captain of the worst ship in the fleet. And his usual demeanour and way of dealing with things, soon helps sort the motley crew out. But, I guess I'd have liked more person conflict, more head bashing or just something. It just seemed too easy for him.
I think that because of his maturity here, we get some real insight into his deeper worries, his marriage, his concerns for real safety of his ship. And that goes in line with things that he asks them to do and helps them with.
I won't leave spoilers, but it really is worth a listen, I think Ismael and his crew are up for lots more adventures, this whole series was more mature, with more problems, but also some very good solutions. :) Well done everyone on the Agamemnon. I look forward to more from both the author and narrator.
