Publisher's summary

In his acclaimed Codex Alera novels, best-selling author Jim Butcher has created a fascinating world in which the powerful forces of nature take physical form. For millennia, the people of Alera have used their unique bond with these elementals for protection. Now, as enemies become allies, and friends become bitter foes, a danger beyond reckoning looms....

Critic reviews

“Sharp tactical plotting, hazardous cross-country travel and a dash of sardonic humor mark Butcher's fourth Codex Alera novel...Butcher deftly deploys intrigue, conflicted loyalties and hairbreadth action to excellent effect. Few writers balance military realism and cinematic swashbuckling with so much skill or wit.” (Publishers Weekly)

"The fourth Codex Alera novel further develops the world and characters of its predecessors and confirms Butcher's mastery of action-filled fiction.” (Booklist)

“I couldn't put this one down...Great work.” (SF Revu)

Fast paced.. Great character development

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, although you must read the previous books in the series.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is just awesome! She has an accent for each character and I could easily tell who they were when she spoke. She speaks clear, precise, and with just the right amount of emotion.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time, yes.

Any additional comments?

I'm really enjoying this series. I know I will be sad when it ends after book 6.

Keeps getting better and better

The Codex Alera series gets better with every book. The books add up to a major epic and are so well written you eventually get caught up in the characters and the story.

I've loved each of these books amazing series...

so entranced by the story of octavian and Alerea. Truly a joy to sit and become enmeshed in the subtle nuances that make Butcher a modern master of his craft.

Best one yet!

Like I said - this has been the best thus far in the series. I am really not sure why but it's a great book

Yes, I even enjoy the horns between chapters!

Would you consider the audio edition of Captain's Fury to be better than the print version?

It's hard to say. I certainly enjoyed both. The narrator does an excellent job and the characters seem honest and individual

What did you like best about this story?

How it builds on itself.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

Probably Max

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Magic and epic battles come together. A secret that you should be able to guess but don't even though all the clues are there.

Redding never fails to satisfy

There is the pause and the inevitable complex solution. With that somewhat predictable after 4 books I am hooked.
