A wonderful character. Realistic
There was nothing not to like. Loved every bit
The way she read it brought much more feeling and closeness than reading it yourself
It hard to separate, loved all of it
First time listening to someone read to me instead of doing it myself. Loved it. Able to clean or go for a walk and still listen. Thank you for introducing me to this way of stories
I really enjoyed the audio version of Callisto Carvanis. Karri McCann did a wonderful job with the voices, inflection and individual characters. Shakuita Johnson wrote a story that is full of twists, turns and monsters that will have you double checking the locks. I found myself on a roller coaster of emotion, changing who I liked/disliked on a regular basis. Callisto is complex, suffering at the hands of others and sometimes causing the suffering. She embraces the madness, her abilities, her weaknesses. Everything Callisto does, she does full force, giving it her all. No one is safe, when Callisto is on the path.
Callisto is a very complex book, with lots of different characters, plot twists and more. I found listening to it on audio was helpful with keeping everyone/everything straight and I can't wait to listen to more of Shakuita Johnson and Kerri McCann.
I received the audible for free from the author to listen to and leave an honest review. Callisto's mother was using her for a revenge scheme. Callisto found out and wanted nothing to do with it. Her mother was forcing her to help her. But Callisto became more powerful than anyone ever thought she would be. I can't say whether I like Callisto, or whether I just really can't stand her. Yes, she stands up for what she believes in, but do wrong by her and you're dead meat! What a detailed and well-written story. The progression of the characters is fantastic, and the story makes you feel as if you are there. I must say that I had to get used to the narrator's voice. It took a while for me to get used to listening to her.
This book is amazing. It is part of a great series that hooks you quickly.
My favorite part of the story is the partial resolution of some of the build up in the series.
Kerri McCann has done a wonderful job bring the characters to lift. I am amazed at how well she conveys the characters personalities through her narration.
Please read the rest of this series, available on Amazon. This is not a stand alone novel.
This is the first book I've ever read/listened to by this author. When reading a authors work for the first time, you never know what to expect. The first thing that I noticed about this story was the fact it was well written. This tale drew me in within the first few pages.
Callisto is a force to be reckoned with even as a child. She knew what she wanted and stopped at nothing to get it. Her need for power and her desire for building her legacy sets her apart from those around her. But I feel it's because of that desire, she never really LIVED. She loves hard but at the same time but hard enough. A lot of the elements of the story reminded me a lot of familiar stories like Game of Thrones or Reign. The author was spot on with the behaviors and politics of those times. As disturbing as it is, during those days insect was a normal part of society.
I felt sorry for Christian. He loved Callisto so much that he did any and everything she wanted. He followed her plans for centuries, never really taking the time to learn for himself. Because of that, he ends up suffering.
I wasn't as pleased with the ended. Callisto's interactions with the society felt rushed. With all the things she's done over the centuries, I expected more of a BANG ending. This is just the first in the series; I look forward to finding out more.
I would recommend everyone read this series. Callisto's story gives a more detailed background to the Mooyer Society and how they fit into the "Others"
Kerri did an excellent job with bringing the characters to life.
I couldn't stop listening once I started.
I love this series and hope to see more of them made into audiobooks. This way I can listen to them while I am running errands or doing chores around the house.
Shakuita Johnson's Callisto Carvanis is wonderfully evil, and Kerri McCann was wonderful as Callisto, as well as all of the supporting cast. I cannot wait for more!
