Publisher's summary

Cynical, quick-on-the-trigger Takeshi Kovacs, the ex-U.N. envoy turned private eye, has changed careers, and bodies, once more, trading sleuthing for soldiering as a warrior-for-hire and helping a far-flung planet's government put down a bloody revolution.

But when it comes to taking sides, the only one Kovacs is ever really on is his own. So when a rogue pilot and a sleazy corporate fat cat offer him a lucrative role in a treacherous treasure hunt, he's only too happy to go AWOL with a band of resurrected soldiers of fortune. All that stands between them and the ancient alien spacecraft they mean to salvage are a massacred city bathed in deadly radiation, unleashed nanotechnolgy with a million ways to kill, and whatever surprises the highly advanced Martian race may have in store. But armed with his genetically engineered instincts, and his trusty twin Kalashnikovs, Takeshi is ready to take on anything...and let the devil take whoever's left behind.

Broken Angels is the second Takeshi Kovacs novel. Don't miss the first, Altered Carbon, or the third, Woken Furies.

"A lively follow-up to an energetic debut, with a still refreshingly cynical hero." (Booklist)

Sometimes hard to follow

There were literal minutes at a time where I could not figure out what was happening. It seems to be part of the authors narrative style that the characters figure something out, but it takes them a chapter before it is explained to the audience. Also some chapter breaks drop you in the middle of something, and 8t takes a bit to figure out how you got from point a to point b. I'm not sure if this is a function of listening to the story instead of reading it, but I came to the point where I just decided that if I was lost, just wait, and I would eventually figure out what was happening.

A Change in Genre

Kovacs is always a delightful narrator, and Todd McLaren portrays him perfectly. This book took a hard curve from cyberpunk into hard scifi and I loved every minute of it. Can't wait to dive into book 3.

good but nothing special

I really wanted to like this book I enjoyed altered carbon however the total change in story and frankly confusing plot line and weak character development made this book very difficult to get through.

5 star story & performance, poor audio production

Both performance and story warrant 5 stars. I really hope they make a second season on Netflix. My overall rating is 4 stars because the audio production is poor. A real pity. Its a little better on earbuds but terrible on car audio.

Loved...

Loved as much as altered carbon! I am sad that the are only three books. Would live to see a future book that goes into the old ones (martians) story. What happened to them, and why.

good but not as good as Altered Carbon

Slow start first half of story. Finish is very good though. Didn't keep me engaged as much as the first book.

Great performance, slower story

Less of an engaging story, kids filler, but I guess it's the life of an Envoy.

Solid but hard to follow

A little challenging to get into and tough to follow in parts but overall a solidly entertaining story and performance.

Love the Character. Much better than the TV show.

Worth the reads if you liked the first novel. Love the wedge command and internal battle of main characters.

Fabulous Noir Sci-Fi

I've enjoyed Richard K. Morgan's science fiction more than any other books I've ever downloaded from Audible (and that's a lot). The plot of Broken Angels is sufficiently complex to keep your interest but not overwhelming. There's plenty of tension to draw you forward. The scope of the novel is sufficiently grand to remind you of why you like science fiction in the first place.

Takeshi Kovacs, the hero, is fabulous. Imagine Han Solo and Clark Gable and James Bond being grafted into one personality... that's him.

Warning: there are a couple of steamy scenes not for the prudish -- and can be very distracting while you're at work.
