Publisher's summary

In a world where "witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people" ( Booklist), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy's found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

Critic reviews

“The preternatural culture of vampire seethes and wolf pack politics is deeply intriguing. Briggs provides plenty of detail about Mercy's complex world.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Mercy is not just another cookie-cutter tough-chick urban fantasy heroine; she's got a lot of style and substance and an intriguing back-story. Series fans will appreciate the resolution of some ongoing plot lines, and the romantic tension is strong.” (Library Journal)

Fantastic

Each one gets better and better. If I could, I would give Lorelei King ten stars.

Amazing!

This is actually the fourth book in the Mercy Thompson series. I read the first three over the span of three days. I loved them that much! Briggs has done an amazing job with this series. I really enjoyed listening to the fourth book which was the only one available in the series..it really helped to bring the characters to life for me. It is money well spent.

I love this series

This series is fabulous. I read it for the first time when it was released ages ago. This is my third time through it in advance of the next book coming in the fall. I love Mercy. She is tough but in a very genuine and feminine way. The interactions are - dare I say realistic? She has never once done something that made me think she was foolish / illogical / irrational. She doesn’t randomly decide to run in to danger without backup or other silly things protagonists do to perpetuate their own kidnappings. None of the side characters are one demential / shallow / better kicked to the curb. She is someone I wish I could know IRL.

Good

I love these books and can’t seem to get enough of mercy and the sexy werewolf. I also like her vampire, even though he tries his darndest to get her to understand that he is a predator. Since the mistress of the seethe cannot have mercy, she decided to go after her vampire friend first. He appeared in mercies living room, tortured and battered and starved. Fortunately, her wolf pack was able to bring the vampire back from the brink. Then worst friend shows up And wants her to come and deal with her haunted house. Mercy is wondering if it was a coincidence. She finds the ghost in her friends house, but she also finds a lot more than she expected. Things get a lot more heated between her and Adam as well. I am excited to read the next book in the series.

I’m sad for Stefan and all the people Marsilia hurt and killed

Finding the good in all the bad things in her life is what Mercy excels at.

Still worth a listen

Yeah, this wasn't the best of the Mercy Thompson series, but I've still relistened half a dozen times when I relisten to the whole series. Things happen here are pertinent to the future books too, don't listen to the others telling you to skip it.
