Publisher's summary

I've always had a weak spot for strange ladies. One very beautiful girl had even warned me that she was, get this, a vampire. But did I listen? No.

Before you know it, I'm being chased by an ugly thug with a gun, and a bullet blasts its way through my back, and, believe it or not, nothing happened. I survived! How? You guessed it. I, Jack Fleming, ace reporter, have been transformed into a vampire, which has its advantages. You never die, you never grow old, you sleep all day, and, best of all, you can hunt down your own murderer.

Bloodlist is the first novel in an exciting vampire adventure series.

I love this series in print and was thrilled to see book 1 in Audio. In the past I have been let down by the audio version of a book I really liked as a result of narration quality or simply a narrator who's voice talent does not fit the topic. I am thrilled to say that neither is the case here. Whitener has taken the persona of Jack Fleming as his own in a way that truely brings the tale to life. My only complaint is that with 10 books so far in the series we have not seen any more of them here in Audio.

a vampire in Gangland Chicago...

By the story's finish, I found myself with a few major questions... Was Fleming a vampire before he was murdered? If so how did he survive the lake? Why did he not save himself prior? Or how did he become a vampire after he was murdered and came ashore on the lake? I feel like I missed something here... The narrator has a great voice for this type of story, but there were several retake lines that he forgot to edit out.

Pleasantly surprised

Much more creative than I thought it would be - was expecting a trashy vampire novel (and I was okay with that). Instead, what I got was a smart spin on the vampire-just-borne storyline - set in a film noir detective backdrop. Only downside was that the beatings got a bit repetitive (which the character/narrator made reference to “no imagination”) and I wanted a bit more from the team up between the protagonist and Esquette (spelling?). Some really good performances and, overall, a refreshing take on the vampire myth.

Absolutely Enthralling

An absolutely masterfully written mystery from start to finish, with lovely twists and turns and consistent action throughout.

PHENOMENAL!!

I am drawn towards any book with a supernatural and/or fantasy flair in fiction or non fiction. I don't finish all of them and of those I finish I rarely rate them. Of the one's I feel compelled to rate a perfect score is something I've never given, until now. This creation has a plot line I've never come across before, characters that are each well rounded and interesting (all of them), and the performance is so well done I felt like I was watching this story in a well played movie. I could literally visualize the entire "performance". The biggest problem I was left with is that only the first two books are in plus catalog, the rest I will need to use my credits for. That's a bunch of credits. It will take a year to get them all, unless I spend a few hundred dollars getting more credits. Tsk, tsk, decisions are sometimes so difficult! 🤯

Pleasantly Surprised!

I only started this book to hold me over until my next credit came and I was pleasantly surprised by how hooked I got!
It was a really great story and although the performer was a little monotone in his reading, I was able to get past that and really get into the plot. I'm glad I took the chance! You won't be disappointed!

Story is okay. Narrator is pretty good.

It was an okay story with a pretty good narrator. It was fine to pass the time while I worked on my computer.

Good not great

A newer vampire who was a reporter, gets gunned down & investigates why. The master left him & barely taught him. Set in the 1930's. Story / pace is constant & simpler. Some action & mystery. VERY little vamp powers, but just enough to make it interesting: he barely knows his powers, some frighten him, so he doesn't experiment with those at all & may have more ???
PERFORMANCE: MC + a few others have different voices, most characters are VERY similar & it can be hard to tell who is talking.
COULD OF BEEN GREAT: more mystical stuff & a GOOD performance.

An OK Story..

The story itself is not bad and fairly entertaining. However, it seems like the author couldn't make up their mind about what kind of story to tell. Is it a vampire story or a gangster one
That being said, I don't regret listening to the Audible recording of it.
