Years ago, the magnificent dragon queen Tintaglia forged a bargain with the inhabitants of the treacherous Rain Wilds. In exchange for her protection against enemy invaders, the humans promised to protect an unhatched brood of dragons. But when the dragons emerged as weak and misshapen hatchlings unable to fend for themselves, dragonkind seemed doomed to extinction. When even Tintaglia deserted the crippled young dragons, the Rain Wilders abandoned the burden of caring for the destructive and ravenous creatures. They were banished to a dangerous and grueling journey in search of their ancient dragon homeland, the lost city of Kelsingra, accompanied by a band of young and inexperienced human keepers, also deemed damaged and disposable.

Against all odds they have found the fabled city, yet myriad challenges remain. Sintara, Mercor, Heeby, Relpda, and the rest of the dragons struggle to find their wings - and their independence. Their human escorts, too, must contend with unsettling upheaval: Thymara, Tats, Rapskal, Sedric, and the others are transforming into Elderlings - true dragon companions. As old rules give way to new alliances, secret fears, and adult desires, the keepers must redefine their lives as they attempt to reawaken Kelsingra to its former glory. But gaps in the dragons' memories leave them all struggling to recover the magic that once animated the great city.

As the young Elderlings risk "memory walking" in the city's hidden history, an outside threat is growing. The Duke of Chalced has dispatched his forces to the Rain Wilds with a compelling mission: slaughter the dragons in an attempt to stave off his own demise. The tide of history is about to turn on a life-and-death battle that will ultimately decide the dragons' fate. If they win, the regal serpents will rule the world once more. And if they lose, they will vanish from the world forever.

"This is the Robin Hobb whose writing I've loved"

I have been following this series with hope. This installment reminds me of why I love Hobb's books. Excellent writing- great resolutions, significant progress in the story.

If you have enjoyed other series by Hobb, you will like this installment. In my opinion, it accomplished a lot more than earlier installments.

    "Narration was comical"
What disappointed you about Blood of Dragons?

Much of the times was spent whining about love triangles and teenage-level angst. The narration was annoying and the voices she attempted to act always sounded so ridiculous that it was like she was making fun of the characters. Her choices to make one person sound like a shy little girl, or another person with a phony accent seemed completely random and not related to the characters' descriptions. Several hours in, I started using the 30 second skip generously to spare myself so suffering. I wish this had no cost money. Then I would have just turned it off and found the paper copy.

Would you be willing to try another one of Anne Flosnik’s performances?

    NO

    "I loved this series!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Blood of Dragons to be better than the print version?

YES!! Ann Flosnik is a wonderful narrator!!! She is a pro at doing males, females, dragons, different accents and her voice is so beautiful!

What did you like best about this story?

The characters! I love the way Robin Hobb creates her villians! I also like that each character has inner conflicts that seem real and natural within fantastical settings. I love her descriptive abilities and her attention to detail.

What does Anne Flosnik bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her beautiful voice! Her inflections, her mastery of story telling! She's one of the best up there with Josephine Bailey and Simon Prebble.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

NO FILM!!! My head does better imaginings than any movie would do this story justice.

    Any additional comments?

I am so happy to have audible.com. I have had around 3 (maybe 4 ) platinum memberships. Audible has the very best narrators and the easiest and fastest site to downloading books. I would forgo restaurants, new clothes and the like just to have my audible.com platinum membership.

    "great ending for good series"

and for a change not a bad ending like Robin Hobb

loved the characters development , loved that every one of them gets a share in the story

I really like the fact that for a change the people are the lesser participants

"Meets Expectations - still want more"

I really like this series. My only problem with Robin Hobb's characters is that sometimes the time it takes for them to mature and stop being so childish seems a little too prolonged for me, but I guess that may be no different than reality. I like seeing them mature and grow, but...

However I really like the world that Robin Hobb has created and discovering it is definitely what keeps me coming back to this series and I am excited to find out what happens next.

    "Audio was too fast!"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

It sounded like the audio was sped up. She is talking way too fast. I can barely stand to listen to it. The other books in the series were not this bad.

"An excellent wrap up to a great story"

The Rain Wilds Chronicle finishes with this book bringing the entire life cycle of dragons into context. At times, as was true in Hobb's other tales, the coincidental encounters of characters is very predictable, and the end of the story wraps up a little suddenly. Even so, the conclusion is very satisfying without loose ends to leave the reader waiting for the next book. Anne Flosnik does a terrific performance!
