Publisher's summary

Jane Yellowrock is a shape-shifting skinwalker who’s always up for a fight - even if it means putting her life on the line....

The Master of Natchez, Mississippi has a nasty problem on his hands. Rogue vampires - those who follow the Naturaleza and believe that humans should be nothing more than prey to be hunted - are terrorizing his city. Luckily, he knows the perfect skinwalker to call in to take back the streets. But what he doesn’t tell Jane is that there’s something different about these vamps. Something that makes them harder to kill - even for a pro like Jane. Now, her simple job has turned into a fight to stay alive...and to protect the desperately ill child left in her care.

Great book

I've read or listened to all of the series, and this one was one of the best. Jane has her usual job for Leo that gets her in to all kinds of trouble. And what an emotional roller coaster she has to deal with, from Rick and Bruiser. I felt to the brink of tears at times, from the bruises dealt to her heart. She stays strong though, and does her job with some help from an old friend, she thought she had lost forever. This story is packed with many different kinds of emotions, humor and lots of vampire slaying action. One not to miss, if you're a fan of the series, and the narration is excellent.

Something is witchy....

Smoke and mirrors will never have quite the same meaning to me as it does now. I loved his book. Jane gets better and better as she goes!

Jane and he team are on a mission to take down some naturaleza vamps causing a ruckus in Mississippi. What they don’t realize is just how bad the vampires have fallen. They’re morphing and a lot harder to kill. This doesn’t sit well with Jane, or her team. She and Eli along with the kid may have bitten off more than they can chew.

But, never fear, the Calvary is here! Rick, his Sol, the white wolf and the little Grindy (Pea) show up to give a hand... then Bruiser shows up. Talk about tensions rising. Haha

The group of Misfit supes and the humans have to work together and quickly to find out exactly wtf is happening in this town. Vampires are turning on them, they’re turning on their own and witches are missing.

It’s time to call in some extra help, lock and load and bust some vamp butt!

Always a winner

Love this series. Characters are well thought out and the author doesn't rush the story line.

I like the narrative as well. I hope she stays with the series.

Very entertaining series; highly recommended!

Jane Yellowrock, full blooded Cherokee Skinwalker & Professional Vampire Slayer, is one hot, tough, smart and cool... woman. She & her alter ego, "Beast" , lead an exciting roller-coaster life across the mountains of TN and NC, through Natchez, MS, and down to her home-based in New Orleans, Louisiana! Vampires, shape shifters, witches and more, constantly keep Jane's life redlined into overdrive! Oh yeah, she's also witty & funny "as all git out!" , Lol!

Good, some characters left undeveloped

all in all, I do like the story very much, and the universe definitely. I also understand why Jane and her cat can't make their mind up about Rick or George, cat nature. I am not sure I understand the danger of getting the were taint but, okay, every universe is different, so I accept it. I know Bruiser is chosen at a later point (not my favorite, his allegiances are elsewhere), and also know that Rick is a cheat BUT he is that, plus the tattoos... they have to mean something 😕 I hope Rick will be the one at a very future time 😁 perhaps after some lessons are learned..
I have enjoyed the family addition and the action. At some point, it has been all fight and descriptions of that and scenery, and no real human interactions or perhaps only sparsely described. I love action but interactions, characters, and character development are important to me. I've missed that much here especially.
Great narration thiugh!!!💗

This series just keeps getting better!

This is the sixth book in the Jane Yellowrock series and I am just amazed out how this series keeps getting better and better. The seventh book in this series will be titled Black Arts and is scheduled to release in 2014. This was a fantastic read, action packed, and full of all the wonderful characters we’ve come to know and love.

I listened to this on audiobook and it was spectacular. This is one of those books that is actually better on audiobook than in paper format. The narrator sounds completely like I imagine Jane would sound and does an excellent job on other character voices as well. The narration is perfect, capturing tone and emotion wonderfully.

Jane Yellowrock receives a call from the Master of Natchez, Mississippi; he’s got some Naturaleza he needs taking care of and he thinks Jane is the one to do this. Of course when Jane arrives she finds things are much more complicated than that. These aren’t normal Naturaleza...they are something much harder to kill. To add to the complication a friend from Jane’s past, Misha, is in town and wants to talk to Jane about vamps. When Misha disappears Janes realizes that there may be some witchy things thrown into this Naturaleza mess.

These books just keep getting better and better. I absolutely love how fast-paced these books are. I love Jane as a character too; she is funny and heartfelt and tough. Jane continuously struggles with her need to protect humans by killing vamps and the morality behind taking the lives of living (or dead) things. She is battling some depression in this book and it was interesting to read about heroine dealing with that and trying to get on with what needs doing. Jane is trying to figure out how to find some happiness again but it is taking some time.

All of our other favorites are here too. Bruiser is in the story, Rick is back to cause some trouble, and of course the boys (Eli and the Kid) are watching Jane’s back. I love the dynamic between Eli, the Kid, and Jane. It’s like a little vampire killing family and they really provide the backup Jane needs (both emotionally and physically).

I am starting to get a bit sick of the whole love triangle between Rick, Bruiser, and Jane. The romance going on there was kind of at a standstill in this book. There is a ton of tension between Bruiser and Jane and Rick and Jane. It didn’t add a lot to the story and was more distracting than anything. I hope that this love triangle gets resolved soon so that Jane can either develop (or not develop) a relationship with one of those men.

Misha brings along another old friend of Jane’s, Bobby. Bobby is mentally challenged but has some special magic skills of his own. He added a lot to the story with his sunny disposition and gave us a glimpse into Jane’s past as well.

I loved all the witchy elements and vampiric transformation things that were going on in this story. A lot happens and the plot is fairly complex, but I found it all to be incredibly interesting and engaging. There are a lot of very well done action scenes in here and the spidey vamps add a whole new level of creepy to this story.

I also love that there is a contained story here but it ties into the larger story that’s been developing from book to book. It is amazing how Hunter ties all these books together and it really shows how much planning and work she’s put into this series right from the beginning. The book is very well written and I really enjoyed it.

Overall a spectacular addition to this series. I enjoyed it alot. We learn more about Jane’s background and are introduced to many new and interesting creatures and characters. I love how Jane is developing a family of sorts of her own and that she has a good support team at her back. The book in incredibly engaging and really pulls you in. This is definitely more urban fantasy than paranormal romance, which I enjoy. I can’t wait to read Blark Arts! This series is highly recommended to fans of action packed urban fantasy.

Great Listen

I loved this book – Khristine Hvam is on my list of A+ Narrators

If you are checking out this book and have not read the other books from the Jane

Yellowrock Series, I strongly suggest starting with Book 1 – Skinwalker!

If you have read the other books, then you will likely already own this book because you have been waiting to read/listen to it.

My opinion – loved it!

Spoilers below (hopefully not too many as I ramble)

In Blood Trade Jane is still depressed, suffering from the aftermath of the last book. I must say I was glad to see some of the emotions playing out in this book from the forced binding in the last book. The section where Jane has a conversation with Bruiser was very good. I really liked the way that played out. I do still hope to see more follow in this relationship.

Jane takes a job cleaning up some of the mess that was left behind at the end of the last book. We have witches, evil vamps, Rick and company (Loved the sections with Sol and Pia). Actually, I just loved the interaction in this entire book, a good deal of interaction that just adds layers of interest and depth to the relationships. And I really am looking forward to the time when Sol and Jane actually talk more. I would like to see these two become friends. Jane is in need of female friends.

Other note-worthy events include

Rick and Jane in which Rick claims he will kill Bruiser if he every lays a hand on Jane then drag Jane off.

Bruiser explaining what has happened to him, Bruiser kicking major ass

Beast knocking the tar out of the white wolf

Jane knocking the tar out of the white wolf

Beast nuzzling/scent marking Rick again

Pia knocking the stuffing out of Rick (a few times)

Sol – love to know more about this character for sure. Hope to see more of her
Oh I just loved the whole thing. Read it/listen to it if you haven’t already!

Always great, but I want more...

I love Faith Hunters' stories. I usually hate books that keep going, but Jane is a character one can't get enough of. Please write the next book, but Jane needs a mate soon :)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Molly's husband came clean with Jane. Also Beast and Jane's feelings over kids.

Any additional comments?

I love the series. It gets better with each books. Jane is a very strong character. She holds her own throughout the book. Her right hand man/partner/"brother" is also an excellent supporting character to her. He aids her in her focus and keeps her on track. I love the reader. She makes the series come to life. The audible series would not be the same with Khristine Hvam. Faith Hunter gives our characters their voice. Khristine Hvam makes them audible. I preordered this audible book because I love the series and wanted it as soon as it was available.. Thank you Faith Hunter for the series. Thank you Khristine Hvam for helping the characters come to an audible life. Faith Hunter your choice for the audible series was right on spot when you selected Khristine Hvam. Kiddos to you!!!
