Story seeds planted earlier begin to blossom

Giving Butcher mad props for laying the groundwork of storylines several books before delivering on them.

Best series

It's not hard to believe that Butcher started this series to prove a point in regards to formulaic writing, but he does it with such talent that it's easy to forget. Once I start one of his books I don't want to stop until it's finished.

YOU CAN'T MISS...!

Where does Blood Rites rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I can't rate only Blood Rites--I have to rate the whole Dresden Files series. I have been a fan of these books for years, eagerly awaiting a 'next' in the series and at the same time fearing that Mr. Butcher will tire of 'our' wizard hero. I am, even as I write this, rereading (re-hearing?) the entire series. I'm in the middle of 'Turn Coat, again, building up slowly to the latest release (...lol...anticipation is great!!).

What did you like best about this story?

Hard question to answer--the character development, the interaction, the new insights. In Turn Coat, for instance, we get to see Molly growing up and coming into her own, Morgan turning into a real person (...lol...yet still remaining Morgan), Mouse a bit more than the average dog...and Thomas, poor Thomas--we are left worrying over Harry's brother...

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I cannot imagine anyone other than James Marsters reading the Dresden Files. This man is so incredibly talented, able to keep the characters 'themselves.' You always know when it is Harry speaking, and Molly and Morgan and...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laugh and chuckle and groan through all of the books. It's really difficult to point out just one or two instances--the enjoyment and interest is there through all of them "Where the bad guys will see us and send someone else to kill us," Molly said [in response to an action proposed by Harry]. "No wonder I'm the apprentice--because I'm so ignorant, I can't see WHY that isn't a silly idea!" It is unfortunate that you cannot hear what I am listening to as I write this--the inflections added to the words by James Marsters reading just brings it to life for you.Toot Toot, a pixie fairy, one of the 'wee folk,' just cracks me up (and makes ME hungry for pizza!). Such a brave little braggart, willing to aid and abet in whatever way he can, spying on evil rapscallions and more, all for the reward of pizza (though, for the life of me, I don't recall if a particular type of pizza is favored by the little guy--pepperoni and cheese? Plain? Thin crust or thick?)

Any additional comments?

The Dresden Files series is good from the beginning to the end--I am so delighted Mr. Butcher decided to continue this wonderful alternate Chicago for all of us!

Gripping and Suspenseful Tale of the Wizard

What did you love best about Blood Rites?

I loved the mystery surrounding Dresden's family and then how he handled the results when he found out about his mother. I love these books and will be catching up on all of the series.

What other book might you compare Blood Rites to and why?

The Dresden books remind me of the characters in the Mercy Thompson series. They are supernatural but appear human and always end up on the side of good.

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

Mr. Marsters' makes the characters come alive and especially when he is reading as the wizards. I like how he makes Bob sound like a real person although we know he can't move around unless he occupies another body....like the cat.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Wizard Fire Is Deadly!

James Marsters is Harry Dresden

Would you consider the audio edition of Blood Rites to be better than the print version?

Yes

What did you like best about this story?

Listening Harry Dresden get out of yet another pickle.

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

He sounds completely authentic. I buy him as gumshoe Harry Dresden and he does a good job with all of the characters. I always know who's talking when James reads the various characters in the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wouldn't say my reaction is extreme but I almost always get a good chuckle out of Harry Dresden and his magical friends.

Any additional comments?

This book is pure mind candy.
