When I discovered Audible it was like discovering love :-) I love receiving codes and in return I post reviews. Wife, and mom of two,
First off, I must say that I love this story! It's like in the movies with some extras. But, I've never read a story or listened to one that was about the things that this book consists of. I want more, like now!!
Gabe has learned to trust his intuition or instincts from early on and only to rely on himself, not thinking or believing in asking for help from anyone. His life has been haunted by nightmares and not knowing where he comes from adds to his distress that rages deep within his soul. Gabe can do some things that are rather strange, unlike any other, he can expel demons from people. A priest finds Gabe as a youth and teaches him to use this so called 'gift' for doing good.
Frannie Trahan is losing her mind. Frannie doesn't understand what's wrong with her little sister. She acts as if she's possessed and in fact she very well could be. Frannies mom consults a priest and she's sent to Gabe for help. The meeting didn't go well at all but they do know she is in fact possessed. She' not possessed by one demon but more demons than Gabe has ever encountered, over six hundred demons possess Fran's little sister.
This is a fast paced story that takes us to the place where Fran's sister was first possessed which we find out just so happens to be the same place their father died. We go to Black Water Bayou to learn more about Gabe and the secrets that surround the bayou. In hopes of finding answers they both head there. Will Gabe find answers that's been hidden for years? Will Fran's sister be okay and the demons removed from within her? This you'll have to listen and find out for yourself. This is one great book that I dare not give away anything.
I know I enjoy a lot of narrators and I make it a point to tell of them in my reviews. I loved Bill Russell's narration of this story. I was told that he normally does children's audio books but this was his first time doing any type of audio book like this. I wouldn't have ever known this because it was pure perfection. Bill makes you feel everything that is going on and everything that they're all going through. You feel their emotions from his performance. When Bill uses the possessed voices you can feel the creepiness crawl up your spine. His performance grabbed me and the demon voices are perfect. I felt as if he was reaching out and grabbing me at times. This was much more than any narration could ever be. This by far is one of the best performances that I've ever listened to. I've listened to plenty, trust and believe what I'm writing is true. He mesmerized and intrigued me with his skills and he had me hooked within five minutes of the story beginning. Honestly, Jim Frangione has been my favorite narrator to date. Some know him of being the narrator for J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Yes, he's been my favorite narrator until I listened to this audio book. Bill Russell exceeded my expectations and I'm sure you'll be surprised if you listen.
Monique O'Connor James wrote one of the best stories that I've been lucky to have found. Monique's story is brilliant, absolutely mind blowing. I love paranormal movies with possessions. I've just never listened to a book that is about this subject. At times, I even felt this was based on a true story from the start throughout the story. This story was written to be very believable. Monique created an exceptional story line with strong character development. There's nothing about this story that I didn't love, ghosts, possessions, demons, and exorcisms. The author made sure each characters POVs were distinguished with no trouble. Monique created one if the best stories that I've listened to. It grabbed me,sucked me in, and I couldn't stop listening until it was over. It saddens me that it ended. I really hope that there will be a second and yes, hopefully even a third book. I truly hope for more whether it be a trilogy, a saga, or hopefully a long running series, I beg of the author. I need a second book now, I feel as of I'm going through withdrawls, BLACK WATER BAYOU WITHDRAWLS.
I recommend this audio book, highly recommend it. For the author Monique, if you do write a second, third, or even more books on this story I beg of you two things. Please put it on Audible and this story wouldn't be the same if Bill Russell wasn't the narrator of the books. If I has to wait on Bill to finish another job then in my opinion then I'd rather wait. I understand that there's so many talented authors out there but Bill gave this story something that I can't really explain but he's the only person that I feel will give another story as this one the justice it deserves. I was this audio book and I'm extremely grateful to have been honored to have received this wonderful audio book. You're definitely missing out if you don't give this book a chance.
