Publisher's summary

Turned into a vampire against her will, 28-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago's vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye - and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing - among humans or inhumans.

Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he'll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed. No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

Biting Cold

Holy smokes that was an intense book so so much happens the world is a changing that is for dang sure. Human are finding out there is more to what they originally thought. Mallory and Merit may never be the same.

I kind of loved this book the most out of the ones I have read so far. Also, the battle scene was epic!

The switch in narrator didn’t throw me off as much as I thought it would, Sophie is a favorite of mine so that was a plus. I think she actually did a better job because she gave other characters their own voice it was refreshing.
I can’t wait to listen to the next one.

Great Book even with Narrator change

Any additional comments?

I was a little hesitant to buy the next book in the series after reading all of the reviews regarding the new narrator..Sophie Eastlake is definitely not as strong a voice as the previous narrator but I was very happy with the 6th book and cant wait to get to the 7th..The new narrator makes Merit a bit softer and a little bit more feminine. LOVE the series

Not up to Neill's usual standard

Would you listen to Biting Cold again? Why?

There's no "again." I skimmed it the first time, and don't intend to go back for the parts I skipped. That said, I do still like the series, and intend to continue with future books.

Fantastic job by new narrator

I like the series overall. And without the annoying mispronunciations, it was so much better. I hardly noticed the change other than the improvement. Her Irish and English accents were much better too.

Good story....but new narrator

Any additional comments?

I was so exciting for this book to come out, but was so disappointed when I started listening. After listening to the same narrator for the first 5 books, it was very disorienting to have a new one. I could barely keep up with the book because I was so distracted by the new narrator. She had trouble distinguishing between the male characters and used accents were there weren't any before. I usually don't have a problem to listening to any narrator, whether they mispronounce words or have trouble creating multiple voices for multiple characters. I have even listened to Sophie Eastlake in other books. However, the personality of Merit seemed to change a little from this narrator's voice. She seemed younger and definately not the Merit we have all come to love. Very disappointing.

well this is awkward

Any additional comments?

this was pretty awful, so imagine you're watching your favorite TV show, and you're 5 seasons into the show, then on season 6 they replace the entire cast. now the characters are the same, the story's still the same... but lets face it bringing in the new people was a major mistake. that's what changing narrators did for this book. I've listened to the entire series up to this book, and now everything's changed yes i realize that down in the roots the characters and the stories the same but I've come to associate each character with the certain tones/ voices that the previous narrator (Cynthia Holloway) used. now i cant tell who is who in this book because Sophie Eastlake has one voice for all female characters with no change of accents or tone, and one voice for all the guys which is worse because she sounds like christian bale trying to be Batman. this series has lost so much with the change of narrators. i was really getting into the books until this change occurred and now I'm not sure i want to get the rest of the series its that bad... please for the love of god bring back Cynthia Holloway... for whatever reason you lost her its not worth this atrocity of a change.

Good but changes were disorienting

The book is good but anytime you have a generator change when the original narrator is good it is hard to realign character voices. So that was disappointing. The new narrator does a nice job with many of the characters but the two main characters merit and Ethan were not done nearly as well as the prior narrator - that could just be because that was the narrator I heard them first with.

Narrator aside I felt like some of the character development was not fully explained and it made the story feel choppy but overall as I said a very good listen I will be listening to the next book .

Fighting for the rights

I just loved this series. Merit is taking the right steps to save her friends as well as her Chicago. I love how Ethan has returned. Mallory gets punished for her addiction to Bkack Magic. Sophie Eastkaje did an amazing job as storyteller and Chloe Neill is an awesome writer. Looking g forward to more of this series.⚘⚘⚘
