Publisher's summary

Turned into a vampire against her will, 28-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago's vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye - and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing - among humans or inhumans.

Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he'll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed. No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

OK overall

How could the performance have been better?

Needs to look up how to pronounce words and not just make something up.

Any additional comments?

I had to walk away for about a week before coming back to this story. This narrator was vastly different than Cynthia, and not in a good way. Her male voices sound bored or like she is pinching her nose when doing them. It probably didn't help that I started this book right after the last book (I'm new to the series). After a week, I could tolerate her voice enough to listen. Really sucks when they change narrators after establishing a standard set of voices for 5 books.

New Narrator Blues

Just wish the narrator hadn’t changed. It wasn’t bad, but got used to characters sounding a certain way and now they’re different.

Narrator

Would you listen to another book narrated by Sophie Eastlake?

NO

Any additional comments?

Bring Back Cynthia Holloway, once you start with one narrator its hard to hear some one else. Jim Daly did all the Harry Potters why not have Ms. Holloway do all of the Chicagoland Vampires?????

Very well done

The story was very good and I'm sorry it will be so long until we get another. At least I hope there is more. This ties up a lot of arcs in story from before and put a lot of things straight. My only quibble with the way it's written is that I wish that Ethan was allowed to do some of the heavy lifting that seems to always be Merit's job.

I like this narrators interpretation much better than the last one.

Wow! The narration is SO-O-O much better!

What did you like best about this story?

I've enjoyed all of the Chicagoland vampire series, but this is by far the best -- the new narrator doesn't "trip me up" with mis-pronunciations!! There were many, many times over the course of the first 5 novels that I was annoyed, confused, perplexed by the narrator's inability to sound out words to the point where I would lose my place, have to start the chapter over so that I could remember where the story left off!! Much, much nicer!! Thank you!!

Any additional comments?

My only hope with this narrator is that she continue to improve the role-playing voices. Her diction, pronunciation, and tone are perfect... she just needs practice with her voicing. Great job!

What a surprise!

I enjoyed the story line. However, the narrator took me awhile to get used to. I can't wait for Catcher and Mallory to make up.

Wow!

I'm waaay shocked. The villian. The story. The ending. I'm just... wow. Though I SHOULD have seen this coming. I didn't like Mallory in the previous books.

Glad for change of narrator

Typically I would hate that they changed the narrator in the middle of the series but this narrator is way better, I could not get over the way the old narrator mispronounced so many words, especially undoubtedly, she said undoubte-bly and it made me so mad!! It was said like 6 times in the last book and I wanted to scream every time! So I was happy for the change,
