Publisher's summary

Turned into a vampire against her will, 28-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago's vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye - and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing - among humans or inhumans.

Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he'll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed. No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

No complaints here

If you've been reading the series, then don't miss this one. Really enjoyed this newest installment of Merit's adventures. This book seemed to end the series, as far as characters go, to where you can walk away from it. At the same time, it starts a whole new series within itself. At any rate, I liked the way it ended, not feeling half disgusted, waiting on another installment to come out. So many of the series books, make you feel like you're hanging on a cliff for another year.
I don't really care for the narration, but is tolerable. She just doesn't have enough emotion in her reading, and the men really sound quite dull.

Very poor narrator

I'm not quite through with it but it's the narrator. I just can't get past her. This series is just not her deal, which detracts so much from the story line.

Good

After killing off your main character, then bringing him back, only to start the whole I’m afraid I’ll hurt you thing again to the getting over it again And then a new narrator to boot, I think you wrote a decent series. I will go to the next book now.

New Narrator Is Fantastic

I had issues with the first narrator, she could not do accents and she made everyone sound like a snob...plus she really struggled with pronouncing words correctly which really shocked me.

Regardless this new gal is on point, I miss Margot's French accent but other than than its so nice to actually hear the accents that the author described.

The story really wrapped a lot of lingering storyline up which was nice after so long, I am looking forward to seeing where the Chicago vampires are headed to next.

Sophie Eastlake does a great job

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you enjoyed the previous books in the Chicagolan Vampire series you will not be dissappointed in this latest addittion. I don't understand all the negetive hype about the change in narrators. In my opinion Sophie Eastlake does a great job with this book. The change is subtle and Sophie 's performance provides for a calmer, more mature sounding Merit One critism I have of the series is that Merit frequently sounds like a silly, twenty something year old. Isn't Merrit 28 years old, an English lit graduate, and the Sentinel of Cadigan House. Let's make her voice fit her character. Good job Sophie for doing this while keeping with the original narrative style developed by Cynthia Holloway.

Any additional comments?

The on again, off again nature of Ethan and Merits relationship is getting a bit frustrating. They are mostly on a downward spin and when they do get together it is anticlimatic. After all the trials and tribulations they go through, it should be earth shattering when they finaly get together. Chloe Neill would make a very good series, fantastic if Ethan's and Merit's characters were a bit more passionate. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to turn this series into another Harlequin romance, but a few declarations of love, and a bit more in the way of passionate love scenes seems called for. Maybe in the next release?

Very Entertaining Vampire Book & Series

I enjoyed reading "Biting Cold", by Chloe Neill. It's the sixth book in her 'Chicagoland' series. I enjoy the characters, the world, and the escapist fun reading they provide. It's hard to share the story of this book without spoiling it for readers who have not read the following one but I can say that it continues the tales started in previous books and ties up several of the stories while opening up new possibilities for future books.

I thought the narrator of this book did a fine job and was not put-off by the change in narrators mid-series. While i agree this is usually not a good idea I did not feel there was enough of a difference to merit the complaint.

I recommend the 'Chicagoland Vampire' series be read n order and that this book, along with the other books in the series be read by all who enjoy reading books about vampires and their worlds. It's light fiction that's very entertaining and has a sense of humor. It has very little sexual content but there is romance. Some violence but is not overly graphic.

Interesting direction...

The first few audiobooks had various words mispronounced but this one is great.

Storyline wise: everything comes to a head to take the series in a new direction. It's a good place to stop if one wants to abandon the series or a good place to recommit.

GIVE THE GIRL A BREAK

So Yes i have completed this book along with the books before this and yes, I do need to say that changing Narrators was a Bad move, especially since you already created a visual of the characters based on the played out voices and now you have to recreate... meh... Whatever... Its a still a damned good series and the Narrator is not that bad, give her a break... I am series( lol ), if she started the series off, and Cathy Halloway had come back as narrator we would be jumping down her throat... All in All... this is one of my best series and I absolutely love it... Never a dull day :-)
