Publisher's summary

It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Among them was a great dreamer, an immigrant who'd pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and most admired men in the world. That man was Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserved better. So he set out to create the impossible: a utopia free from government, from censorship, and from moral restrictions on science, where what you gave was what you got. He created Rapture - the shining city below the sea. But this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be... and how it all ended.

narrating should have been closer to the games

the accents were a bit off. it seemed like the narrator didn't play the games or even get the voice clips from it. I think the performance overall was good but just wished it sounded more like the accents I was already used to.

the accent for Atlas must have changed 3 times throughout the last parts of the book.

A dark dive to the sunken city

What a fantastic book. If you ever wondered how everything in the games happens or exist. This is the story for you. It expands and explains the places, characters, and madness. Also it’s just a good sci-fi horror story.

An interesting prequel.

The audio narration isn't very good, but the plot line is solid. If you're a fan of the franchise, you'll like this book.

played it, now read it

Johnny Topside's storybwas not continued or the Alpha Series elaborated from Bioshock 2. Author should have had the Sophia ending after the Rapture Civil War with Atlas.

Good for what it is

I had low expectations but this book ended up being pretty good. It was nice to see a good timeline for the creation of Rapture. The writing is mediocre and the narration is good, though the voices he uses for female characters are all a little whiney.

This makes the game series even more memorable.

Would you consider the audio edition of Bioshock: Rapture to be better than the print version?

I never knew that BioShock had a book series coming out, but I am more than happy that it does! I saw this in my Audible suggestions, and got it in a heartbeat!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Everything about this story made me misty-eyed with nostalgia and emotion. Every place, character, and situation described and brought up in this gave me flashes of memories and moments. I am so excited about the upcoming books for this series!!
