The Night Angel Trilogy grows increasingly multi-threaded, leaving the reader wondering where Weeks is ultimately going. He finally ties almost all threads together in a memorable conclusion that is worth the effort. Narrator Paul Boehmer improves as the book goes on and finishes with fine drama.
Beyond the Shadows wraps up the Night Angel Trilogy. I very much enjoyed this book, as it takes Azoth from Apprentice to hero. He must however juggle his responsibilities to his calling and his new wife. This book is the most exciting of the three, as the action is almost non stop. The conclusion wraps up most of the plot lines, but seems to leave the possibility of another book some time in the future.
Overall, I really enjoyed all three books in this trilogy. The story was very good, and Paul Boehmer is one of my favorite narrators. I would recommend this series to anyone.
Currently studying psychology in Norway. I primarily read fantasy, sci-fi and fictional books
If you have gotten this far into the Night Angel trilogy, this book will take you on an emotional roller coaster. I had to fight back tears several times, and I lost that fight at least twice. Paul Boehmer captures the characters agony/pain so well it's difficult not to believe it's true, what an amazing performance. If you have come this far in the trilogy, this is a must read!
Although the first book was relatively slow and was hard to get into, I'm glad I stuck with the series. The series was amazing and the third book was definitely the best.
I want to write the positive first in case you don't read very far into any reviews! Get through the initial gore and adjust to the narrator and you'll be glad you did. I actually enjoyed the third book more than the first! As a trilogy, this does not disappoint.
Now, for the reason I did not give 5 stars: I really enjoyed this trilogy but I almost didn't get to experience it for 2 reasons. #1) I did not like how slowly this narrator read the story. His voice was very pleasant but I felt like he was reading to a kindergarten class. My brain kept wanting him to PLEASE read more quickly!! That said, this series would be perfect for people learning English as a second language. Each word is pronounced slowly and clearly. But for a native speaker of English, the pace made me crazy in the beginning. My brain did finally adjust as I kept going and I was able to enjoy the story. #2) The author inserted too many gratuitous scenes of bloody gore. I don't mind some descriptive violence that is in keeping with the story line but when it feels contrived such as "insert gore here" it is bothersome. This trilogy is a great story and can stand alone without the excessive bloodletting. So, keeping these 2 irritations in mind, I still highly recommend these books!!
This series ranks as my #1. I had read the series a few years back so I was excited to hear and so glad I did.
Kyler, who grows through the series with every turn has to handle or fail and work out mentally and physically so many parts of not just his life but everyone around him.
This series was the first time I have listened to Paul Boehmer and after having read this series, Paul did an excellent job with the characters presented.
In a trilogy where nothing happens by accident the author sure left a lot of I answered questions. I read that he may go back and make a fourth book is really needed. Hayley a sour taste in my mouth that he would write these three then move to another project without finishing this one. Makes me believe that he was holding the fourth book hostage to his publisher in order to get his other books published. Which by all means they are good books and their own rights. But the open ending of this book is unfair. To take your reader on an adventure so far just to have it end so many open questions so many possibilities is really rude. I do hope that he will go back and make a fourth and even a fifth book I could easily see how it could be done. Until then I will read fanfictions about what happens next
