Good book. Good series. Suffers from abridgement.

I can't complain about the reader. His performance is good and his voice is similar to that of the author's. It's the abridgment that hurts. It makes the story difficult to follow and damages its overall impact. Maybe another Battletech series would've been a better choice to record. One with fewer characters and a more linear narrative would've been easier to fit into the this three-hour format. For this reason I would've rated it even lower but this is the only Battletech series available in audio, and I enjoy the line. So if your looking for Btech to play in the car, this is it. Check it out. Then go buy the paperbacks. I'm sure Fasa and Stackpole would appreciate the shekels.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. Listening to the end, realizing it was the end, I discovered I must have missed the middle. Just as well. I didn't care about the people and couldn't figure out who were the Clans and who weren't and who the rest of them were. The battle mechs and interstellar wars are all the rage now. It's like a Harry Potter spinoff--never as good as the model.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

No idea. How do you make a dud a hit? It's that X factor mix of credibility and likability. the battle scenes were very active, but somehow not quite there. And, as I have said, I didn't care about any of the characters. How do you make someone like you?

What about Christopher Graybill’s performance did you like?

He did all sorts of voices EXTREMELY well; it was hard to believe there was only him doing the reading. He does the racial/national accents well too, just not the Chinese names. Have Chris call me and I can coach him on those.

Could you see Battletech being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, it would probably make millions. Put in the current pretty boy and ripped, lean girl, and voila. Maybe Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt--no wait, that was Edge of Tomorrow.

I couldn't figure out the order of the 3 downloads, so I ended up skipping one. It was annoying that there were 3 downloads like 3 separate books--Audible, what's up with that? It's not like it was longer than a Tom Clancy single download.

Great for fans of battletech

Great for people who know the mechs and lore. Having a visual representation of a jumping blackjack getting shot down is wonderful and I enjoyed most parts of the book immensely.

a truncated form of the story

narration was good, but large swaths of the story were missing. this is an abridged version of the book and I sorely wish it weren't.

If you read the book first you will be fine

I have every Battletech book written. I like the universe that has been created. I was very excited to see Audible had a great Battletech series for download. I do however like unabridged stories. I was happy with the narrator, he did a fine job, I was also happy with the production,some sound effects and scene dividing music.

I however was not happy with the way they chopped the story. In my view they left out parts of the story that would be critical to explain the motivations of the characters. They also did not try to explain how the mechs worked, or even really what Mechs were.

I would be very interested to see hat a person new to the story, storyline would have to say. If Audible could get the Battletech stories unabridged I would buy them all. IF youare looking for a short piece to listen to, that does not require a lot of thought by all means get this audio book, but do yourself a favour if you like it... go buy the print edition and read that.

I have read the book but this is so poorly abridged you can not follow the story .. There is so much left out it is hard to follow.

this is the frist mech book i have read and i really liked it alot

Good book, fewer sound effects

I dont know why they felt the need to add laser blasts and explosion sounds, doesnt add anything. That said, its a good read and worth the time for any fan.

Nostalgia at its finest.

With the successful Kickstarter by Catalyst Games for the Battletech Clan Invasion box set, I thout to go through and listen to my Battletech audiobooks again. All I can say is, "Long live the blood of Kerensky!"
