About this listen

The Earth died when aliens rained thermonuclear warheads on her cities and sprayed the surface with a bio-terminator. A deadly poison drifted to every corner of the planet, threatening the last survivors with annihilation.

For a soldier in Antarctica like Creed, there is only one way to keep breathing untainted air. He must bury his hatred of the extraterrestrials and join the Jelk Corporation as an assault trooper, leaving the planet for outer space. In return for his and other people's services, the corporation will house the last humans for as long as the assault troopers keep winning.

For the price of living and the chance to save humanity, Creed has to wear a shock chip in his neck - Jelk discipline is harsh - and he has to don a symbiotic battlesuit that feeds off his sweat. Human life is cheap in the vast alien war. The assault troopers are little more than suicide soldiers, but for humanity to escape extinction, they must survive. But Creed didn't agree to the bargain in order to remain a dog to the aliens. He has a plan, and he'll need all his cunning to beat these star born bastards and begin the road to freedom for the human race.

Assault Troopers is a tale of human extinction and ultimate desperation, written by bestselling author Vaughn Heppner.

Great story. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. The tense moments and action was great. Christian Rummel's narration was also outstanding. Great voices, made listening to the story a blast! Highly recommend if you like SciFi action.

Great Story, Outstanding Narration

Loved everything about the whole series except the alien races described mostly reminded me of the stuff you'd see on an old 60s episode of Star Trek. I wouldn't equate highly evolved beings with dirty babion type creatures or giant bipedal tigers.

Great Story, Alien Races a Bit Cartoonish

The story leaves many avenues for the author to take the ride. I will be jumping into the next book now.

Fun read and listen

Too bad the rest of the audiobooks aren't on kindle unlimited. Wish I knew if it was Amazon or the author's choice.

The narrator was the only reason i made it to chapter 27.

The story was cookie cutter from the start. The main character was an ass to me... He was so overly macho i laughed out loud at some of the dialog exchanges, and not because they were funny!

I tried, but couldn't finish listening to it.

Macho guy story with a boob fetish

he was going for starship troopers but got closer to Battlefield Earth. the narrator is awesome tho, graet production.

reminiscent of L, Ron Hubbard. ..

Not a deep story, but it makes a nod in that direction. Creed was the most relatably rendered while some of the others seemed to be cardboard cutouts. Christian did a fabulous job of giving every character a unique, consistent voice. Vaughn did a grand job of leaving us as confused as the protagonist. It was enjoyable nonetheless!

A fun romp.

This is the story of a broken boy who became a loser first (harsh, I know) , and after the apocalyptic experience with the aliens , becomes a superhero and a....philosopher. Ha.
I don't think I will follow the series. This was enough.

The book was Kindle-Audible Whispersinc thing and the narration was excellent. Almost gave it four stars just for that.

Where does Assault Troopers rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ranks in the high middle zone. How about 14.25 out of 20?

What other book might you compare Assault Troopers to and why?

I will compare this book to The Battle of Heligoland Bight by Eric W. Osborne. They are totally different and have absolutely nothing in common except that they both concern humans and how they act in adverse situations. As I have said previously - Stupid question Audible!

What does Christian Rummel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Christian Rummel gives an edge to the main character that works well. Also, I dig his female character voices. When I heard Jennifer's voice I had a flashback and thought I was in Dauntless' bridge in Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series. Rummel is a pro. He made a pretty good story into a solid good story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions. I did get saddened when the main character and Jennifer, fresh out of the sweaty sack, travel into a German city. Buy book for more info. I laughed at least 9 times toward the end when one of the central characters opts out of the evil camp and fights the good fight. Solid dialogue.

Any additional comments?

Give this book a shot. Picks up nicely in the latter chapters.
