Publisher's summary

From an extraordinary voice in fantasy comes the stunning conclusion to the Farseer Trilogy, as FitzChivalry confronts his destiny as the catalyst who holds the fate of the kingdom of the Six Duchies...and the world itself.

King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies. But Fitz will not wait. Driven by loss and bitter memories, he undertakes a quest: to kill Regal. The journey casts him into deep waters, as he discovers wild currents of magic within him - currents that will either drown him or make him something more than he was.

Beautiful Writing & Depressing Ending

Amazing & powerfully gifted narrator. Fascinating ideas. Beautifully written. A little more relationship focused & less action than I normally look for in my fantasy reading and it may appeal more to the fairer sex. Overall an amazing story, but filled with overlooked solutions, neglected opportunities, & forced failures combined with unecessary tragedy all used to move the story towards the author's moral in what felt like, at the very end, an overly heavy parable. When I was finally finished I felt like a kid who'd just been told much of life is suffering, the good guys don't always win, & stay away from caffeine.

Horrible ending.

I enjoyed the first two books but this one seemed long-winded and then a quick end.

The ending seemed rushed while the book dragged on

This was a rather difficult book to get through. I enjoyed the first one, then the second one slowed down, finally, this one really seemed to drag on in places. Some of the scenes just seemed to be superfluous. The main character's obliviousness also got on my nerves more than once. The bits of closure at the end seemed to be rather contrived and quick.

Make sure you read this trilogy 1st

I am absolutely hooked on FitzChivalry, Night Eyes & The Fool! Cant get enough of the story, the narrator and the adventures. Robin Hobb is a genius and my love of medieval fantasy, people with heart and soul, animals and dragons. I love the wit bond! I am wit bonded to my animals!

Great series but frustrating Protaganist

I really enjoyed this series and the narrator was truly incredible. I could tell which character was speaking easily and the emotion he gave to their voices really moved me at times. The world that was created in this series pulled me in and I found myself constantly wanting to know more.

However, the protagonist, Fitz, was a frustrating character to follow. I felt pity for him but unlike other series where you wonder "how will the character solve the problem/conflict" I found myself thinking "I wonder who is going to come to help him". I'm not sure how to explain it but it constantly felt like even though Fitz was going through all these different things, he never really did anything. As people have said, this story isn't about a master ninja fighting assassin but it still felt like Fitz was too incompetent.

Now, as to how this series ends, it left me feeling very bitter sweet. I am able to accept the ending but it doesn't make me happy. However it does excite me that I came across this series knowing that the tawny man series and the fool and the Fitz series are out since these continue Fitz's story and I'm really hoping that things go better for him in the future and that maybe he grows up a bit more (even though technically, he is a grown adult by the end of the novel)

Excellent

Before starting this book I clicked on the reviews and for some reason only 1 and 2 star reviews came up. They made me hesitate, but I started the book. It was so good I finished it in less than a week. The writing is wonderful, it is an extremely satisfying end to the trilogy. Very highly recommend!

Adventure and dragons

A well told first person story of a man who does not know where he fits in and wait nothing but a simple life. Choices of personal fights, his duty to his king, and to his loyal friend.

If looking for a series to escape and be lost in a kingdom this is for you.

So good

I love this series. The narrator does a very good job. I have listened to all three books in the series in the past three weeks.
