Publisher's summary

From an extraordinary voice in fantasy comes the stunning conclusion to the Farseer Trilogy, as FitzChivalry confronts his destiny as the catalyst who holds the fate of the kingdom of the Six Duchies...and the world itself.

King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies. But Fitz will not wait. Driven by loss and bitter memories, he undertakes a quest: to kill Regal. The journey casts him into deep waters, as he discovers wild currents of magic within him - currents that will either drown him or make him something more than he was.

Great end!

This book brought a great end to what looks to be just the beginning chapter of Fritz’s story. I look forward to finishing the rest!

The Farseer series is a great read.

Robin Hobb has a great way of punishing Fitz Chivalry and tells a great story.

Great third book

I had seen a review here that was negative and I don't know what book they read/heard but this book was consistent and had a reasonable ending. Not huge warm fuzzies ending and not to sad either, it worked.

great fun with a satisfying conclusion

Endings are difficult, but this one delivers an earnest, heartfelt conclusion beautifully. The characters are fleshed out cleanly and convincingly.

So glad I found this series.

The story is rich and deep. I find myself feeling the pain, anger, love and hate of all of the characters. I see everything Robin Hobb writes for us. 10/10*s. READ READ READ

Hobb is sublime

After finishing this first trilogy in the Realm of the Elderings series, I have come to adore Robin Hobb. I get the hype, she is wonderful, masterful in her writing. As far as Fantasy goes, there is little in the way of Fantasy besides The Wit and Skilling. As readers, we don't know much about it. But what about the Dragon on the cover? I wanted to know WHEN a dragon would make an appearance. Well, I got my wish, at approximately the last 1/4 of the book. There isn't a lot of fantasy world building in the first 2 books, but there are hints placed throughout this series. What Hobb does very well, is build characters and lay a foundation with which she is building this world. You fall in love with Fitz, The Fool, Burrich, Ketrican, Verity, and more. The Fantasy aspects come into play more towards the end of Assassin's Quest. But I believe it's a set up for much much more to come if one so desires to read on! And I doooo! I was tempted to skip past the Liveship Traders and go directly onward to more Fitz and the Fool, but I've heard so many good things about it, that I'll move on in the order that was intended, because I believe the hype bestowed upon this author. I guess it isn't hype anymore, but a solid reputation for good writing and stories the masses have falling in love with. I am one of them now. And the narrator fit perfectly. Truly enjoyed his narration.

Great trilogy.

If you were looking for more from a trilogy, then I think you will be hard-pressed to find such. This is a fantastic read/listen and is intelligent, fun, thrilling, and unpredictable. I can’t recommend it enough.

Wonderful distraction from work and everyday life!

I listen to the whole trilogy and loved it. I’ve listen to Game of Thrones probably eight or nine times the whole series and Dresden files 10 or 15 times and this is been wonderful to take me away from every day worries!
