Good narration is a talent that is very often NOT given to those that are gifted to write a book. The author here definitely needs to leave the narration to a professional. It would otherwise probably be a very decent read.
This book felt very much like a perfunctory first draft, perhaps of something that would be turned into a movie. The story is interesting, I cared about the characters only moderately, the writing and narraation by the author were lacking. Most annoyingly, the audio quality was not good, which did not add to the narration.
"Very strong, laconic Californian accented narrator"
Only managed 5 painful minutes so cannot comment on the story. Would definitely advise a professional narrator as the author's drawl is difficult to take in and to distinguish characters apart. Also many mispronounced words corrected as he reads so completely throws the flow.
Possibly as a kindle or paper version, I liked the synopsis and really wanted to immerse myself in the story.
Any proven narrator with neutral accent and a good range of pace and tone.
Not in this format.
If this was reread with a different narrator I would certainly listen to it.
