Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best - but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option - even if the task is impossible. Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other - and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

I am a book junkie...I read and enjoy a variety of stories, so please don't "define me" by one book or review! :)
And she rocks! This is Dark Fantasy Angel story as it should be done. Singh is an excellent writer. I appreciate her short, descriptive phrases that make the point. I enjoyed the characters, the world building, the romance, the plot. The author does not hold back in terms of violent imagary and blood, but she does not make it distasteful (in the context of fictional art). She's able to convey her vision and her point that this is the story as it is meant to be... yes, it's Dark Fantasy..you could not realistically create a story with Angles, Vamps, and other paranormal beings of this level of power and not have some of these elements contained within. The narration is good, for the most part, but I wouldn't call it excellent. (The only thing I may agree with other negative reviews upon is yes, the female characters ideally would sound less "tremulous" as they do in many passages. Ironically, Ms. Eyre does a better job with the male voices. I found them more convincing and not "campy" as in some other paranormal or angel stories. Somewhere out there may be a more perfect voice for this story, but I have come to associate the two together. This is now one of my favorite series!
This is my first book from Nalini Singh. I am not going to give a review for every book in the series because they are all good and I recommend them all. You should read them in order. This is a new take on Vampires and Angels. I was a little unsure when I read the description and reviews because but I am glad I started the series.
Angels make vampires and they must give the angel who makes them 100 years of service. Many vamps try to get out of this service and the Hunter's guild tracks these vamps and returns them to their sire. In comes Elana who is the best at tracking these vamps.
You get know several characters who's story you will get to hear in later books. There are still a few characters I hope will get their own books.
The wholes series so far is great, I am now a fan of Nalini Singh and will definitely try her other books.
Bought the first and second of this series on sale. I wish I had not! I like a lot of paranormal fiction like Dresden files and the Hollows series but this was basically all about how hot the author thinks it would be to fly around with wings and have sex with angels. If angels don't do it for you then throw in some vampires. Lots of talk about "immortality" but everything dies which is just silly. sigh.... take my advise and don't bother with these books
I love this series and was afraid that Justine would not be able to do it justice. I was very wrong, she was able to give a different voice to each character individually, as well as improve on the image I had in my head. I loved this book and have already started on the second and will be listening to the third shorty.
For my first listen to by this Author I found it very addicting.
This is my first listen by here so hard to compare to another of her books, but I plan on finishing out this series.
The Arch Angel ofcourse was exciting to me.
I couldn't get enough of it. I hated for it to end. Now onto the next one in the series.
This combines my love of a good vampire villain with my love of warrior angels. . .in such an interesting way. It's a really great story, packed with action, makes it really hard to stop listening because you don't want to miss a good part!
I could have done without all the heavy duty "hot" stuff, Hot stuff is okay if it's part of the story, but bending the plot so that there can be hot stuff gets tiresome. I want to know what happens next, not who happens naked.
The link between angels and vampires was really, really interesting, and it's what makes this book stand out from other stories.
The narrator is excellent. She creates characters by voice alone--you don't need "Mr X Said" to understand which character is speaking. Her inflections and intonations are just fabulous. I'll be looking for other books narrated by her, she's that good.
The ending. . . well. . . just okay. The story built up and concluded, then there's an epilogue-like addition. . .could have done without it!
But, it was a really fun story, I will be listening to the next book in the series!
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
I really liked this book. As the first in the series I was very happy with it and found myself wanting more as I finished it. I like Elana and Raphael and thought that while their relationship seemed unlikely at first it grew believably throughout the book and I loved the ending!! :)
I have two rescue dogs. One Scottish born husband. And a love of books that goes back to childhood and bookmobiles!
well, it's paranormal. you know that by the first word in the title with the word 'angel'. trust me when i tell you these are not the angels you see in paintings or hear about in church. next word in the title is 'blood'. who's blood...angels? vampires? yes. and more, there are humans and vampire hunters!
it's about love and hate, it's a thriller (well, you've got to be with hunters and vamps)! WAIT! that word 'thriller' turns some people off. let's think about it a moment.
i think there are 3 levels...pg (the whole family can watch and read), pg (someone needs to figure out the maturity levels), and then there is the x rating (where there is so much violence and gore that you have to skip page before you can go any further or you just stop there because you don't want to throw up or have nightmares), i would give it a pg rating.
the narration is great! i had not problem following the characters as the different characters spoke or with the disctives in-between.
I liked it but I'm not eager to continue on in the series. The storyline held my interest and I liked the characters but I don't feel the need for more.
It was a good listen
Several things: the female was strong and stood her ground, it showed both sides of the main characters stories, it was not a one sided story, and had lots of characters to explore later.
