Publisher's summary

Willow knows she’s different from other girls, and not just because she loves tinkering with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into the future and know people’s dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself does. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces and that he’s one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil.In the first book in an action-packed romantic trilogy, L. A. Weatherly sends readers on a thrill ride of a road trip - and depicts the human race at the brink of a future as catastrophic as it is deceptively beautiful.

Angels as you've never seen them before

If you could sum up Angel Burn in three words, what would they be?

Reversal of perception

What did you like best about this story?

I've never heard of someone making angels the bad guys before. This book and the series as a whole raises lots of moral issues in an interesting way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole book did, but the most interesting part is when you realize that to the angels humans are just food, and they see us in the same light that we see the chickens, sheep, cows etc. that are our food. It's an interesting concept to consider, but it's not overdone or an attempt to make you go vegetarian.

Any additional comments?

The story is well crafted with excellent characters and believable interactions between them.

This book forms an excellent foundation for the rest of the series and leaves you wanting to know what will happen next. This is a trilogy that you'll need to finish, I listened to all three books in a row, I couldn't wait to find out what will happen next.

These Are Not Your Everyday Angels!

I struggle with angel fiction, but this book doesn't deal with regular angels. These have no connection with God. They are evil parasites that feed on human energy leaving people drained, diseased, and mentally unstable. They don't come from Heaven. They come from a dying world in a different dimension. Willow is half angel. Alex is an "Angel Killer." So, of course, they fall in love, after initially hating each other. They join forces to fight the Angel Invasion. Willow is sort of the one person in the whole world who can destroy them, but we don't know why. It's better than it sounds and the romance is sweet. There will be more to the story. Why doesn't anyone ever write solitary books anymore?

Unimaginative

I get that this is a YA novel but it's been done over and over, and it's been done a lot better. The content is so predictable and lacks any real depth or imagination. Even the term angel killers is so obvious it's annoying to hear. The interplay between the main two characters is just a series of make out sessions and ridiculous professions of love. There is nothing compelling about their attraction to each other rather than their respective looks. I have no interest in hearing the rest of the series.

Too elusive for my taste

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Let's just put it this way, I will not be continuing the series. It was very difficult for this book to capture my attention.

Based on the description, this should have been a book that ended up in my "favorites" list, but unfortunately, it didn't quite make the mark.

Average but not great.

This is a story to go to if you're looking for a little escape with a tale of two young people who fall in love while on the run in difficult circumstances and facing dangerous angels...all the while they don't like each other at first. In fact that's the plot device that almost drags on a little too long. Sounds entertaining, and it is, since some scenes play out better than others. The narrative (and dialogue) is not quite as artful and compelling as some other great books I've read (or heard) lately, and is a bit repetitive at points throughout the story. However, I came to like the characters enough that I will read the next book to see what happens; they are fairly well-developed and fleshed out. The narration is pretty good, and for the most part matches what I feel is the tone of the story.

Juvenile...should be shown as young adult reading.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No because my friends aren't 14 years old. The concept was kind of interesting Fantasy/SciFi but it turned into a story about teenage infatuation as much as anything. I actually enjoy lots of young adult books like Harry Potter, Hunger Games but this just didn't cut it.

Would you be willing to try another book from L. A. Weatherly? Why or why not?

Probably not unless it was clearly not focused on a teenage relationship.

Which scene was your favorite?

Not really a favorite but seriously if they had focused on the fantasy or Sci Fi part it would have been much better.

Did Angel Burn inspire you to do anything?

No
