"[His] skill at dramatizing historical forces proves magisterial once more." (Booklist)
I don't care what anyone says - When I say that I've read a book, even if I've listened to it, it's all the same.
Initially, I thought that the idea of 'Alternate History's' was kind of crazy. But, after listening to this book, I have found the genre very interesting. The narrator is top-notch and the story line is captivating. I have found myself actually searching for more audios of this type.
I have read the whole series, although the first book in the series is, unfortunately, not available through Audible (but all the rest are). Very well written, researched, believable, complex and thought provoking. If you are a history buff, or, for that matter, a science fiction reader, this will really scratch a whole bunch of itches all at the same time. Guidall is, as usual, excellent.
I bought this audiobook with the hope of really getting into the Alternate History genre. Instead, it was too many uninteresting characters and not enough history. The final 7 hours I finished only because I'm obsessive complusive. If you're a fan of Turtledove, you might like. If not a fan, try something else.
I get lost in these extremely well crafted stories.
To think that Latter-day Saints could fight so well gives this LDS reader (listener) pride.
There is a private from Utah that kept me laughing all during his inquiry.
If you have 3 days to sit listening to anything I hope you have nothing else going on.
I enjoy this author's works very much.
I wish the Great War series was available, as it seems the best part of the story was there. This is a slow moving, dull book, I did not finish. Well-developed characters, but dull. Large, complex story, but a dull book. Does not keep the listener's interest, nothing to grab on to and look forward to.
After more than 200 audiobooks this is the first one I didn't finish. This attempt at alternative history ended up with very uninteresting characters veiled racism in the name of the 'story' and a generally boring plotline.
