"Assignment: Locate the Unholy Grail, the cup Judas drank from at the Last Supper. It corrupts all who touch it, but it also grants enormous power. So I've got some competition - from angels, devils, sinners and saints - in the search for the dark goblet."
Listen to the entire Nightside series.

This is the second book that I have read in the series and I am really enjoying the series. The storyline has enough plot and ghastly happenings, there is action and dry humour and the narrator is really one of the best I have come across. I have already downloaded the next 2 books and am looking forward to spending some quiet time enjoying them!!!
Parts of these stories are so well told it can bring a tear to your eye and part of it feels repetitive and part of it bugs me to no end. You'll have to find the good bits on your own. I'm not going to spoil it.
The repetitive, is the instance that anything out of this world is possible in the Nightside. That's fine, I got it the first time but it's repeated often and gets tiresome.
As for what bugs me, well there don't seem to be any rules in the Nightside and while that is all well and good it affords the writer to pull stuff directly from his.....collective....mind for convenience. Some times it just feels contrived and some time's it all comes together beautifully. That's irritating. I'm sure I'll listen to the next one if for no other reason than to see if I can decide whether I like this type of storytelling or not.
Then there is the narrator, he's the one thing I'd never change and I'll look for his work and try things just to listen to him. He's wonderful.
I am brutally honest. Popular, love everything they read, reviewers are scared to go neg. and risk their ranking. It's your money!!!
IN THE NIGHTSIDE, if you go to Strange Fellows, you will meet several characters. You will only meet these characters IN THE NIGHTSIDE. You might meet Suzie shooter or Shotgun Suzie or Suzie, Oh Shit it's you IN THE NIGHTSIDE. You could meet Alex, ALEX COULD GLOOM FOR THE OLYMPICS. IN THE NIGHTSIDE, you get great descriptions, especially of women. One woman was EXCEDINGLY BLONDE. Another was SUPERNATURALY SLENDER and there was the woman with IMPOSSIBLY SLENDER LEGS. Only IN THE NIGHTSIDE.
If you have read book one and liked it you should like this one just as well. YOU ALWAYS WHERE A FRUSTRATED DRAMA QUEEN.
It don't matter which order you read these in. YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T NOW WHAT TO DO WITH A NEWT'S EYE.
I like Jack Reacher style characters regardless of setting. Put them in outer space, in modern America, in a military setting, on an alien planet... no worries. Book has non moralistic vigilante-justice? Sign me up! (oh, I read urban fantasy, soft and hard sci-fi, trashy vampire and zombie novels too)
It's short and fast and the narrator is pretty good - dramatic but not over-the-top. This story is a bit better than the first in the series and the phrase "in the Nightside" was only repeated 20-30 times instead of 100-110 times as in the first one.
It's like a child's fantasy book (talking frogs, princesses, evil witches) except it involves gory, gross and rude characters instead. The characters are excessive, over-written and nonsensical, some seemingly put in just to be gory and gross. The story is like an attempt to tell a silly and gross fairy-tale for adults.
While I don't regret listening to it (again, it's too expensive for the length of the story) I think I'll call it quits on this series.
I very much enjoyed this performance. Marc Vietor does a wonderful job of bringing the characters and story to life. While you know that Taylor will win in the end (and learn a little bit more about his mother) the way he goes about solving his various cases is what the story is all about.
This book is a fun mash-up between Men in Black and classic horror films from the 50s and 60s. Some of it is cliche and there are some gaps in logic. However it is easy to ignore this and just have fun with the story especially since the author does a decent job of world-crafting and establishing his own logic. Overall, not bad.
The worst part was the Angels' voices. They sounded ridiculous but speak very little.
Best part in my opinion was Bella. A very original villain in my opinion.
It had some genuinely clever and funny moments in it. Also the author cut back on using the phrase "in the Nightside" by a significant amount and kept it more to incidents where it would be appropriate to actually say that.
John Taylor is supposed to come off as kind of the hard boiled detective, and Vietor does that well. Actually he handles the voice range for the story rather effectively the only ones I really felt could have been better were the two angel groups.Even then they're described as being choirs of voices individually, so it's hardly like they were an easy pair of voices to do.
Nah I could listen to it for decent lengths, but there comes a point where you just need a break.
For the second book in the series, he manages to kick it off with a bang and a pretty good plot twist.
If you like the first book, you'll love this one.
The first in the series was so good I thought perhaps he might run out of imagination and repeat himself. Not to fear. Many new aspects of the Nightside universe are unveiled. Secrets of old friends and locations are revealed. Now, what can he do to surpise us in the next book?
Look for the details, that is what life is about.
Marc Vietor is an awesome narrator. The entire Nightside series seems to be great....I have a few more to go and then on to more scifi :J
does he really have to say nightside every 2 minutes? nightside this, nightside that. Got really annoying... the story, though, was good
"Great for a quick fix of Angels and Demons..."
I've always loved the way Simon R Green can keep a fast pace going in everything I've read from him. This book was a little short but great for fun without too much front lobing. The narrator was perfect you can almost feel the disgust in his voice. If you liked this series then trust me your'll also like the Dresden FIles .
